ARROW Episode 204 "Crucible" Poll & Discussion

Another Wednesday, another great episode of The CW's Arrow. Black Canary (Caity Lotz) definitely stole the show in "Crucible", making up for a rather bland villain. Come take our weekly poll and check out an extend preview of next week's episode titled, League of Assassins.

Arrow continues its strong start to its sophomore season, wasting no time in revealing the identity of Black Canary (Caity Lotz) and establishing an interesting dynamic between her and Oliver (Stephen Amell). The show has really grown since the first season, where that particular reveal may have been dragged out across two or three episodes. In season two, having found its stride, gets straight to the point about Sarah Lance but still manages to maintain a bit of mystery that will keep viewers coming back next week. Kudos to the Arrow writers team.

Arrow season 2 premiere City of Heroes

"Oliver discovers a man who goes by the name “The Mayor” (guest star Cle Bennett) is bringing illegal guns in to The Glades, so Oliver sponsors a “Cash for Guns” event to help clean up the city. Unfortunately, The Mayor crashes the event with his gang and seriously injures Sin (guest star Bex Taylor-Klaus). The Canary is furious when she learns her friend is in the hospital and sets out for revenge. Meanwhile, Felicity stuns Oliver with a bit of information about the Canary, Donner (guest star Dylan Bruce) asks Laurel to dinner, and Diggle reconnects with an old friend."

"While Oliver (Stephen Amell) tends to the Canary’s (Caity Lotz) wounds, he tries to get her to talk about where she came from but she refuses. However, after Oliver and the Canary are attacked at the Queen mansion by a trained killer from the League of Assassins, she confesses to how she’s connected with the nefarious group. Meanwhile with Moira (Susanna Thompson) facing multiple counts of murder and conspiracy for her part in the destruction of The Glades, the Assistant District Attorney (guest star Dylan Bruce) offers her a choice – plead guilty now and avoid the death penalty or take your chances in court. Thea (Willa Holland) begs her mother to fight for her life but Moira seems resolute about taking the offer. Meanwhile, Oliver is furious with Laurel (Katie Cassidy) for joining the prosecution’s team on his mother’s case."

When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. Black Canary is the younger sister who's not as hot as her older sister, yet moonlighting with fantastic chemistry with big sister's old beau.

Great episode! It looks like Oliver is teaching Black Canary another way to fight crime other than killing. The island flashback scenes are getting more and more intriguing.

I had a bad feeling about Sebastian Blood from the beginning. There was just something about him I didn't like. Good rule of thumb, any person with the last name "Blood" is bad news.

And next week Oliver takes on the League of Assassins! I can't wait!!!

The pacing in this show is brilliant! They're making you wonder about Slade and where he is so we'll probably be seeing his turn to the darkside soon.

this season is right up there with BB and Game of thrones for me.

I'll admit I've not been a big fan of the show. I've watched, primarily, because my wife and my kids enjoy it. This year, it's different. I was looking forward to last night's episode and I can't wait for next week.

Great job this season. It's been a lot of fun.

Something I've noticed in the 4 episodes of season 2 is that Ollie has lost his edge quite a bit. Even when he fights he does so without energy somehow. Like Mr. Spock walking around dropping people with the Vulcan nerve pinch.
The show is taking Oliver's personality into a very dull direction while they surround him with more interesting characters.
Lately Oliver has seemed more interesting in flashbacks than as the Vigilante.

Last year Oliver had the book and it gave him this purpose and drive and gave him some depth. Now he just wanders from adventure to adventure with no real goals.
He never even knows about his rivals until they come after him and then it's usually over quick instead of a prolonged rivalry.

I love the show but I think they're getting on the wrong course with the central character.

I'm sure some rabid fan will piss himself when he reads even this slight critique.
The producers need to do more than give Oliver a new adversary each week and some reason to worry about someone. They need to reinject some bite into his character and give him goals and something more to drive him than just being a crimefighter reacting to badguys.
And actually they have regressed him somewhat into an ungrateful brat. He's now disrespectful to Diggs and Felicity and has all but forgotten his Mom while he treats thugs with more respect.

Black Canary's the sister, huh? Then does that mean that Laurel paid that person to tell her parents that she was the one in the picture?

They better keep Caity Lotz where she is! Figure it out WB. She's a hell of a lot more appealing than Laurel.

The guy who was torturing Ollie, he kept asking about the bones and what condition they were in. I wonder if they're looking to try out a Lazarus Pit.

Still hate the no killing thing. Although didn't he kill some of the Mayor's men when they were shooting at him? Because they were noticeably not getting up... XD

Is it bad that I like every one else more than the lead. Great show I just find myself more interested in the supporting cast than the lead. Then my favorite part of last season, the island, just got a lot less interesting without deathstroke and the chick. Great show otherwise.

Great episode. I'm hooked and all in with Arrow on Wednesdays. And this show is way better than Marvel's Agents of "No Superheroes Shown..."

1 minor gripe though...

I love how stereotypical writers make black characters!!! (Not) Denium jean suits (niccas haven't worn that shit since like '98), gold chain, wife beater(undershirt), bandana (who does that shit?), sorry ass independent rap music and military grade automatic rifles!!! *Lord knows that's all I have to wear*. The Mayor was a ridiculous bad guy...

I knew the identity of Black Canary but was surprised when they flashback to the boat and changed the actress who played Sarah from the pilot.

This show keeps getting better and better. It is one of the few shows that I can not wait to see.

Are they doing a better job with introducing DC Characters than Smallville did? In my opinion, yes.

Did it bother anyone else that the police were probably the worst in history? The Mayor came and just started shooting people and the police did nothing! Then when they opened fire again they were the worst shots in history lol that was the only thing that bugged me about this episode. I can;t wait for next week!!

@ riseofLOGANX36

You understand it is not WB who is writing this show right?!

This is show being done by CW not WB or DC! So yes they are going to take liberties like changing his name from Green Arrow to just Arrow.

Though I will agree Smallville was crap but it did have its good moments.

Cle Bennett was better on Flashpoint. He just needs a good script and he'll be amazing.

^ Speaking of Flashpoint.....
Anyone who's seen it would have to agree that it's the proper template for a SHIELD show, not what we have on ABC.

Is he? Is that common knowledge? Are you awarding yourself for thinking that a man in charge of a freighter named "Amazo" is the reclusive Professor Ivo?

If he is, cool. If not, kick yourself.
