Creature Commandos is one of the most highly-anticipated new comic book projects for 2024 as it kicks off a new era of DC Comics film and television adaptations.

DC Studios, led by James Gun and Peter Safran will drop Creature Commandos as the first project from the studios' Gods and Monsters: Chapter 1- the first round of interconnected storytelling from a loosely rebooted DCEU cinematic universe.

The project has fought off delay rumors for months, steadily reaffirming a release in 2024 and thanks to Gunn's willingness to interact with fans on social media, we now know that the project will arrive in late-2024 [via Threads].  If we had to make a logical guess, it would make sense for Creature Commandos to drop around Halloween.

Rumors previously speculated that the project had been delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike but Gunn set the record straight, reminding fans that animation projects were not affected by the strike.

The cast has already recorded all their lines for the series and French animation studio Bobbypills (Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix) is currently bringing the project to life.

One intriguing aspect of the project is that Gunn has confirmed that the actors who voice the characters in the animated show will also portray them in live-action.

That prospect definitely has David Harbour excited, who'll be voicing Frankenstein's Monster in the series.

Said Harbour, "...all I know is the scripts are really good. What we recorded is really great. I’ve seen the art, James is a genius. I think it’s going to be really fun and really exciting, and it opens up a whole new door to the DC Universe of how these characters will occupy the world. I like the concept of a live action and cartoon back and forth."

The 7-episode animated series will stream on Max and stars Harbour as Eric Frankenstein/Frankenstein's Monster, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Dr. Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

Steve Agee will also reprise his Peacemaker role of John Economos.  Viola Davis is also slated to appear as Amanda Waller.

Additionally, Anya Chalotra who plays Yennefer of Veneberg in The Witcher, is rumored to be portraying Wonder Woman villain, Circe in the project. Keep this casting labeled as a rumor for now as it hasn't been confirmed by Gunn.

While Creature Commandos is still without an exact release date, we now know that we should expect the project to begin streaming on Max in late-2024. Or maybe it will stream on Paramount+ as well if Warner Bros is allowed to merge with Paramount...

It’s still weird that something like this is gonna kick off a new DC Cinematic Universe. It’s like starting off the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy or Werewolf by Night. I feel like Superman: Legacy would be a better way to start off. I don’t even know if am going to watch this on its first showing. I might just wait till Legacy.

@tb86 - I mean we know Gunn was working on other Suicide Squad spin offs prior to becoming the head, so its possible this was one of them and therefore was already further along when he took over and decided to make it part of his universe.

I'm unfamiliar with the characters, will have to see if the trailers interests me.

Though at this point I'm fine if we don't get superhero media for a while, feels like we need a break from it.
