Gotham Knights premieres on The CW on March 14, and to say that there's a lot of excitement for the series...well, that would be a lie. From the start, fans have been left confused about everything from the title - which is exactly the same as a video game released last year - to the fact it will revolve around a character called Turner Hayes.
Despite the fact he's surrounded by many of the teenagers who have accompanied Batman into battle, he's a newly created ward for Bruce Wayne who, in this reality (not the Arrowverse, mind you) is framed for the Dark Knight's murder.
There's nothing wrong with introducing a character who didn't debut on the page; Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series is proof of that. However, the fact that none of these young heroes will suit up is, quite frankly, perplexing, and some character portraits doing the rounds on Twitter drive home how painfully generic the lack of superhero costumes makes them all look.
It goes without saying we have nothing against this young cast, and we're sure they all hoped to find Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell levels of fame by starring in a DC TV show. We also can't help but root for Supernatural alum Misha Collins, but it feels like this series is, unfortunately, doomed to fail.
We'll find out one way or another later this month, but for now, you can see how the likes of The Joker's Daughter has been translated to screen - the purple top and green jacket is the giveaway, you see... - below.
In Gotham Knights, in the wake of Bruce Wayne's murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman's enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city's most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names.
However, in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it's ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviours.
The series stars Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, and Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row.
Gotham Knights premieres on The CW on March 14 right after Superman & Lois.
