PEACEMAKER Star Viola Davis In Talks To Return As Amanda Waller In Her Own Spinoff Series

We finally know what that next The Suicide Squad spinoff will be as Peacemaker star Viola Davis is set to get her own show on HBO Max. Find more details on that, and the creative team, right here...

After returning as Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad, Viola Davis briefly reprised the role in Peacemaker as well. At the end of that show's first season, her daughter exposed her mother's role in creating Task Force X, setting the stage for a major status quo shift with the character down the line.

We expected that to be touched on in Peacemaker's upcoming second season, but Variety is reporting that Davis is now in talks to star in her own spinoff series for HBO Max.

No plot details have been revealed, but the trade's sources tell them that "the show will build off of Waller’s appearance at the end of [Peacemaker]." Davis is set to executive produce the series, while Christal Henry (Watchmen) has been tapped to write and executive produce. James Gunn, meanwhile, will executive produce alongside DC Extended Universe vet Peter Safran.

Davis is no stranger to television after earning an Emmy award for her role in ABC's How to Get Away With Murder, while she's also starred in Scandal and The First Lady

This is presumably the spinoff Gunn has talked about in past interviews, and while it's definitely surprising to see a character as hateful as Waller get the spotlight, there was once a time we couldn't figure out why Peacemaker was getting his own show on the streaming service (and it ended up being one of the best stories told in this world).

Hopefully, this planned spinoff will follow Waller assembling a Task Force X made up of some real D-Listers, as The Suicide Squad proved how much potential an approach like that has.

Stay tuned for updates.
