STARGIRL Scores Early Season Three Renewal; PENNYWORTH Eyeing Move To HBO Max

Hot on the heels of announcing its season two premiere date, The CW has issued a very early third season renewal for Stargirl. Meanwhile, Epix's Pennyworth is eyeing a potential move to HBO Max.

The CW has issued an early third season renewal for Stargirl, the critically acclaimed DC Comics superhero drama starring Brec Bassinger in the title role, along with an early second season renewal for Kung Fu, which stars Olivia Liang in the lead.

Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of The CW Network, shared the following statement. “We are beyond proud to continue to share the stories of Nicky Shen and Courtney Whitmore, two strong, powerful young women at the center of this new generation of hit shows for The CW in ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘DC’s Stargirl. While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘DC’S Stargirl’ have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next.

While it initially debuted on the now-defunct DC Universe, Stargirl was one of The CW's high-profile acquisitions last year and the network only recently announced that it would be returning for its hotly-awaited thirteen-episode sophomore season on August 10.

On another note, Deadline is reporting that Epix's solo DC Comics series Pennyworth, which stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, is eyeing a move to HBO Max for a potential third season. Talks are still ongoing, but if a deal closes, it would involve the first two seasons also migrating over to the burgeoning streaming service.
