Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) is back for the season finale of Supergirl and it looks like he has big plans in store for our Girl of Steel (Melissa Benoist) as he plots her demise and sets in motion his master plan to take over the world.

However, while Lex may seem unbeatable, Kara does have, at least, one trick still up her sleeve as she attempts to use to the power of the press to sway public opinion and help her turn the tides.

"The Quest for Peace" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

LEX LUTHOR RETURNS - Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) descends upon Washington, DC and summons Lena (Katie McGrath) and Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong) to the White House. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) realizes she has one last chance to stop Lex and turns to the power of the press to help her. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#422). Original airdate 5/19/2019.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian

I wonder if the episode title "The Quest for Peace" is a nod to Superman IV being that this is the 4th season and that Jon Cryer appeared in that movie as Lex Luthor's nephew?

@bcom - probably is, hopefully it’s the only nod

@dracula - I want Red Daughter to say "If you will not tell me, I will hurt people!" or "Destroy Supergirl now!" Just lean into it. Or she can keep up that sexy Russian accent.

@TDKRnry88 - unless Lex has complete control of her, I doubt she would say those things, but it would be funny

@TDKRnry88 - lol or if Lex says " Oh nuuuoooo" for some strange reason. Or if someone gets called "freako" They got to own it

@bcom - It’s certainly inspired by that title although the rest is, now that you mention it, completely coincidental.

Y'know, after hearing her sporting that Eastern European accent and seeing her in that getup during the conversation between, well, herself, now I want to see Melissa Benoist try her hand at one Anastasia DeCobray--better known as the Baroness:

What an episode, I hope they carry this same momentum into Season 5.

The Midvale flashbacks were a good starting point for Alex to recover her memories, the eventual re-discovery later during the Red Daughter battle was the perfect catalyst.

I didn’t know that kryptonians could also absorb the solar energy from the photosynthesis of the plants, the visuals and scenery during it was perfect.

I liked how the show confirmed that the longer you deal with kryptonite the stronger you can become to withstand over the years, gave Kara the edge over her doppelgänger at the beginning.

They also made good work on the pace betweem them to make them enemies, such as how eerily it is that she lived right in front of her flat and the interiors looked the same to Kara's apartment, etc.

Lockwood finally found out that he was another pawn in Lex's game and took down Otis, in a way saving Lena and Jimmy. The way Otis just spilled the beans at Lockwood's former HQ was almost as if he had also a baby Truth Seeker on him just like Lillian was coerced to wear one. And clearly Lockwood isn’t into “world domination” so I am curious about what he will do now.

Maybe Eve will bring back Otis back from the death like she did it 4 eps ago.

I think Jimmy will let go of those powers at the end of the finale once the dust settles. Was nice to see him working with Lena again, their care for each other never went away.

Jesse Rath was an MVP here with his phenomenal acting as Brainy was hard-rebooted and going chaotic with his emotions while reliving all of the memories of his ancestors (Brainiac, Indigo) among with the guilt he carries for being one of them. All of his scenes were amazing but it’s also sad that it happened just as he was going to confess to Nia and captured J'onn to use him pragmatically along with Dreamer. This can go anywhere into the finale.

Once again with the AmerTek mentions with “Ameritech”. I am going to be a little disappointed if it doesn’t led to more in S5. The transmatter portal returned as well, curious of where they are taking the aliens to harness their powers.

So Red Daughter can shoot the same purple lightning from the last episode and seems that Lex also designed her suit from after the spacesuit Kara uses.

I like how Lex's already achieved his goal by the end and he did it without carrying in his Lexosuit the compressed satelite weapon that he has bee kidnapping the DEO desert aliens and others to harness their energy into the same source that powered that prototype. It’s obvious it will be finished or sighted at least in the finale.

Red Daughter isn’t dead yet, likely playing along his game, then again she did retreat spontaneously from her fight with Supergirl. Maybe she heard the little Russian boy was alive and head there. Hard to telll.

Super excited for the finale. 👍

@NinnesMBC -

The absorption of solar energy from plants by a Kryptonian was a call back to The Dark Knight Returns
where Superman got nuked and regenerates by soaking up solar energy from plants.

The scene was adapted in BvS when Superman got nuked fighting Doomsday but in that scene, he
was in space and regenerated by direct Sun Light.

@WarnerBrother - Oh you’re right! One of the writers of the show did tweet the page of it on Twitter as reference.

Now that BvS scene has gained a whole new meaning context wise, interesting.

Brainy's switch was my favorite part. Unexpected. It will be interesting to see if he and the other Brainiacs become the big bads of next season.
