SUPERGIRL Star Melissa Benoist Shares First Look At Her New Suit As She's Confirmed To Direct S5 Episode

After getting word earlier today that Supergirl would be getting a new suit in season five, star Melissa Benoist has shared a first look at Kara's kickass new threads. Plus, she's also set to direct!

While her previous suit was near-perfection, it appears Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) will be getting cool new threads (with pants!) and a fresh new haircut when the fifth season premieres this fall.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Benoist expressed her enthusiasm about finally getting out of the skirt, “We’ve been talking about pants since season 1. Every time a writer from the show has come up, and it’s freezing cold in Vancouver, I’m like, ‘Guys, please can I not wear tights?'” I love [Kara’s old costume]. I haven’t changed it because it so works, and I think it is very Kara. I’ve always felt that — until recently, I’m like, ‘Something’s gotta give.'

Also, it seems the new costume could pay off quite well in the action department as Benoist will have a wider range of motion while shooting scenes as the Girl of Steel. It also helps represent how much Kara has changed and grown since the inception of the series, "I just think it’s more adult. Part of my goal in this whole series for whenever the show ends, I just want there to be a very clear arc for this character that she evolved as a woman and found her femininity and her adulthood, just a self-discovery.

Additionally, EW has separately confirmed that Benoist will direct the seventeenth episode of season five, which is set to air sometime in 2020. She tells the trade, “I’ve been wanting to direct since season 3, but couldn’t last year because of scheduling conflicts, so David Harewood did it first. I just felt really drawn to it for a couple of seasons now, just because you know the show so well, and you get to know the character, and the world, and the tone of the show so well that you can’t help but envision certain scenes in a certain way. I want to play with that.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Sam Witwer as Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
David Ajala as Manchester Black
Rhona Mitra as Mercy Graves
Robert Baker as Otis Graves
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El
Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor

What I said elsewhere: Solid colors are boring, needs a breaking element between the top and bottom half.

Longer cape and different hairstyle and I’d be all in., that said the suit is really good and I’m looking forward to this season

I prefer this suit, the other one was Ok I guess but the high boots bugged me a lot. This one still has them but look better with the blue pants. Also something I dont like about supergirl is how "perfect" everything looks. Her appartment looks like it was shot on an ikea, they use a lot of pastel colours and her hair is always way too perfect. I have the feeling that they're gonna let her fringe move more freely, therefore looking a bit more realistic, therefore satisfying my nitpicking ass.

TL;DR: looks cool.

It looks cool for a one off suit, but as her new official suit? Mehh.

Supergirl without a skirt is like Superman without a cape. I don't even care if she has pants, just keep the skirt!

@dracula - Taking 4 seasons to get good means your show isn’t good. I dont know I watched an episode when they introduced Alex whatever season that was and it was still awful

@Ha1frican - So you watched the pilot? Way back when it was on CBS? It's changed a lot since then. Especially since going to the CW.

@mayhem101878 - I watched the first 3 of season 1, the first crossover with flash, a couple when Superman came in and the one with Lex. I continually tried to get into it as I was watching all of the CW DC shows and I gave up each time bc it was the worst by a wide margin
