The Guardian Makes His Debut In SUPERGIRL Season 2, Episode 6 Description; "Changing"

Some big changes are coming to Supergirl in the show's upcoming sixth episode as James Olsen takes on a heroic new persona, while we may have a hint about which character will come out of the closet.

It was revealed a while ago that one of Supergirl's characters would be revealed as being gay in the show's second season, and while many fans assumed that it would be Winn, just as many think it's possible that it could be Alex Danvers. After all, Maggie Sawyer - a lesbian in the comic books - has been introduced in the series, so the chance to build a relationship between them definitely exists.

The synopsis below may or may not be alluding to that as it mentions a "new reality" for Alex. It should be interesting to find out what that refers to anyway, but perhaps the most exciting thing about this episode of Supergirl will be the debut of James Olsen as The Guardian. Still, not everyone is on board with the photographer becoming a vigilante, so here's hoping the show manages to change that...

THE GUARDIAN DEBUTS IN NATIONAL CITY – The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality. Andrew Kreisberg and Caitlin Parris wrote the script based on the story by Greg Beranti. The episode was directed by Larry Teng.

Why didnt they just cast Mechad Brooks as Mal Duncan and cast the guy that plays Winn as Jimmy.

You could've easily made Mal a recruit from the military, special forces, who the DEO takes in. He and Supergirl would then know one another through working together in the DEO. Flirtations, budding romance etc. Keep Jimmy as Supergirl's close friend and make Mal the love interest. Him becoming Guardian wouldn't be farfetched too as he's former special forces.
