THE FLASH: Come Get Your First Official Look At The Man In The Iron Mask Unmasked
After a season of guessing games, The Flash finally revealed the mysterious man in the mask and it did not disappoint! Come check out the first official photos along with a little tease for season 3!
Barry: "I can save mom."
Henry: "At what cost? You said time won't change. What if it changes you?"
Barry: "I don't care."
Henry: "I do. I am in awe of the remarkable that you are becoming. All the things you achieved and not just as the Flash, but you, Barry. Your honesty, your heart. You're always a hero, and your mom would be just as proud. And if she had a say in this, if she thought for one second that you going back to save her would mean losing what makes you so special, she would never want that! [Barry sobs] Barry, what I hope for you, maybe the greatest thing that a father can hope for his son is that one day you will become a son yourself and then you will know how much I truly love you."
Just when things were calming down a bit, Barry made an executive decision and changed everything.
In the closing moments of tonight's second season finale, a broken Barry travelled back in time to deliver a beating to the Reverse-Flash and save his mother. What his decision means moving forward, whether it will have a ripple effect on Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, or Arrow, and/or what new challenges this will bring to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew is anybody's guess, but it's hard to imagine a scenario where a CW adaptation of The Flashpoint Paradox is not in play for the show's season three storyline.
On another note, after a season of intrigue, we finally learned the identity of the Man in the Iron Mask and while, many were able to solve the mystery ahead of schedule, that didn't make the reveal any less sweet/heartbreaking. Midway through the episode, Zoom informed Joe that Jay Garrick - the real Jay Garrick - was the man behind the mask, who had been locked up ever since Zolomon's plan to steal his speed had failed, but the real shocker didn't come till much later in the night when, following Zoom's defeat, Wells & Cisco freed the mysterious prisoner and discovered he shared a face with the recently departed Henry Allen.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, actor John Wesley Shipp, who learned about his new role as the Earth-3 doppelgänger of Henry Allen back in March, shared his thoughts on putting on a superhero costume again after twenty-six years: "It was nerve-racking. Andrew Kreisberg said to me, “You get to be The Flash again!” I dubiously went, “Yeah, I know.” He said, “Why? What?” “Andrew, it’s been 25 years.” Of course, being very kind, he stepped back, looked me up and down, and said, “Yeah, but look at you! You’re fine!” Putting on that costume, I saw everything that is wrong about me now that wasn’t wrong physically with me 25 years ago. I was very nervous." Shipp also confirmed that he'll definitely be back for season three and teased some very exciting and interesting plans for his character(s). Last year, the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark matter storm that struck forensic scientist Barry Allen — bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive. But Barry wasn’t the only person who was given extraordinary abilities that night. The dark matter also created meta-humans — many of whom have wreaked havoc on the city. With the help of the S.T.A.R Labs team, Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon and Dr. Harrison Wells, Barry protects the people of Central City from these powerful new threats as The Flash. Following the defeat of Allen's arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash must quickly turn their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but can he actually save his city from impending doom?
