Joffrey’s little brother Tommen has allegedly been re-cast for Game of Thrones season 4, and will be played by an older actor.
Winter is Coming reports the rumour that actor Callum Wharry (left), who played Tommen Baratheon in Game of Thrones seasons 1 and 2, won’t be returning for season 4. Instead the part will reportedly be played by Dean-Charles Chapman, who appeared in season 3 as the unfortunate squire Martyn Lannister (one of Robb Stark’s captives, who was killed by the Karstarks).
While ageing up Tommen Baratheon might make sense considering that he’ll likely be featured more heavily in Game of Thrones season 4, it would be curious to choose an actor who already had a fairly memorable role on the show. Chapman’s previous credits include The White Queen, The Revolving World of Charlie Brown, and the upcoming movie Before I Go To Sleep.
Notably, he has also taken a turn on the West End, playing the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical.
Game of Thrones season 4 premieres in the spring of 2014. Its 10 episodes will roughly span the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga by George R.R. Martin.
