Next Wednesday, Academy Award-nominee Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee; True Grit) will join the rarest of company when she becomes one of the few actors to play two iconic Marvel characters, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the soon-to-be fan favorite Kate Bishop having already voiced Spider-Gwen in the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (a role she will soon reprise in the highly-anticipated 2022 sequel.)
During the global press conference earlier this week, we were able to catch up with Steinfeld and her castmates, and she spoke on the similarities she now sees between Gwen Stacy and her new role as Kate Bishop.
"It's incredibly cool and I feel so honored to be a part of both projects, but I think they're characters that have similarities, but they're very different and, of course, one is animation, and one is not. Two completely different worlds, but I always love that. I do find the characters that I have played in the past do have this sort of consistency in being these young women who are strong-minded, have a point-of-view, have an idea of who they are in this world and they really stop at nothing to get what they want to achieve and I think that both Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop are proof that if you set your mind to something, you can really achieve great things."
In the upcoming series, Steinfeld co-stars with original Avenger Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War; Avengers: Endgame), with a supporting cast consisting of Florence Pugh (Black Widow; Little Women) as Yelena Belova, Vera Farmiga (The Departed; Up in the Air), Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul; Sense8), Fra Fee (Cinderella; Les Misérables) as Kazi, Zahn McClarnon (Westworld; Doctor Sleep) as William Lopez, Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight; X-Men: Dark Phoenix) in an undisclosed role, and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo.
Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Endgame; Avengers: Age of Ultron) will reprise her role as Clint's wife Laura Barton, while Ava Russo, Ben Sakamoto, and Cade Woodward return as their children Lila, Cooper, and Nathaniel, respectively.
Jonathan Igla (Mad Men; Sorry for Your Loss) is serving as showrunner, with Rhys Thomas (Staten Island Summer; Saturday Night Live) and the filmmaking duo Bert and Bertie (Troop Zero; The Great) serving as directors on the six-episode series.
The first two episodes will start streaming on Wednesday, November 24, followed by weekly episode drops until the show's finale on December 22.
