Filming for Season 3 of Netflix and Marvel’s Jessica Jones has already begun, and most of the returning cast and crew will be filling their usual roles - all except one.

According to Deadline, Krysten Ritter will no longer just focus on her work in front of the camera, which she has done for the previous 2 seasons as the series' lead actor. Instead, the Marvel star will be taking on a larger role behind the camera, as she gets set to make her directorial debut for an episode in the third season.

In response to the news, Ritter also issued a brief statement:

“I am beyond thrilled to make my directorial debut on Marvel’s Jessica Jones. The entire crew and cast has become family to me, and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to work with our incredible team in this new way. I am so grateful that Melissa Rosenberg, Jeph Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix entrusted me to take the reins.”

Details on Season 3 are scarce, but we do know the story will likely see Jessica deal with the events of last season, particularly the death of her mother and the falling out between her and Trish Walker. There has also been some speculation that one of the new characters set to debut next season will be the Power Broker.

So, what are your thoughts on Ritter taking a shot at directing? Make sure to share them in the comments below.

I didn't mind the season season of JJ, although the first was much better. Excited at the (possible) addition of Power Broker though. He was always pretty cool.

I wonder if she has the choice to pick the episode she wants to direct or not.

She joins Clark Gregg in terms of an actor that has been allowed to get behind the camera for their shows. It's just the two of them so far.

@NinnesMBC - Not really the same but I saw that Lucy Liu directed the first episode of Luke Cage S02. Kinda cool.

@L0RDbuckethead - I was always aware of that since production of S2 began actually, she did well. And the picture is cool.

But I meant MCU actors in the TV shows being given the reigns of the direction of an episode and unless my memory fails me until now it has only been Clark Gregg who has directed an episode of his own show which was earlier this year.

It's going to be interesting seeing how she directs people when she only delivers her dialogue in a monotone fashion :)

In season 2 they kinda shit on her entire supporting cast, but Jessica herself is always great and the first season was fantastic. Hopefully this season is more in line with the first season and not the second.

I wish those people including Hollywood from actors to directors that keeps on complaining by simply labels 'Marvel movies' saw these Marvel Netflix shows 'cause after LC S2, I realized these shows were so different, grounded, and mature, especially when it comes to the villain.
