Throg made a blink-and-you'd-miss-it cameo appearance in the fifth episode of Loki, "Journey Into Mystery," with writer and producer Eric Martin later revealing that we were supposed to see a clash between the God of Mischief and Frog of Thunder in the premiere.
It was during Thor: Ragnarok we first learned Loki had transformed Thor into a frog, and composer Natalie Holt explained shortly after the series wrapped up that "they just kind of cut it down to kind of give it a bit more focus...I had actually written, I had done something with choir for it like it was this big, grand moment where Loki takes over the crown in Asgard, and then you see Thor as a frog."
As you might expect, the fact this scene exists somewhere inside Marvel Studios headquarters has left fans spending the past couple of years wishing it might see the light of day. Now, with Loki available on 4K SteelBook and Blu-ray, we have the full deleted scene and get to see exactly what happened (along with Holt's impressive score).
It's a terrific scene but shows perhaps one failure too many for Loki. An argument could also be made that it's a little too silly for what was meant to be a relatively sombre and hard-hitting look back at the God of Mischief's misdeeds.
Still, we can't quite believe Marvel Studios cut Chris Hemsworth's cameo in the Disney+ series and left Throg, Frog of Thunder, on the cutting room floor in the process. Perhaps we'll get something to make up for it in next month's second season!
You can watch the full deleted scene below along with a couple of clips from the Blu-ray's special features.
