MOON KNIGHT: Who Was [SPOILER] At The End Of Today's Episode And What Exactly Did It All Mean?

Today's episode of Moon Knight took us to a lot of crazy places, but who was that character at the end of the episode and what might that mean for the Disney+ series as we head into the final two chapters?

Well, those final few moments in Moon Knight were quite something, eh?

After being gunned down by Arthur Harrow, Marc Spector woke up in a psychiatric hospital, with the inference being that everything we've seen up until this point has been in Marc's head. We'll be taking a closer look inside that hospital ward in our breakdown later today, but those of you who have read Jeff Lemire's Moon Knight run might have an idea about where this is all heading.

In "The Tomb," Marc and Steven Grant meet and look to plot their escape before running into Taweret, a giant hippo-like creature who was first referenced in the premiere. She doesn't have any sort of comic book history, but based on what Steven said in that episode, she does have ties to The Ennead.

If this purgatory is where Gods, and perhaps even former avatars, go when they die or are banished, then perhaps she's there to assist in breaking them out of this metaphorical asylum. Taweret is also the protective ancient Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility, so perhaps she can help Marc, Steven, and Jake Lockley reconcile as they once did in the comic books to become a little more stable.

It's feasible she's just an illusion, of course, but we expect the fifth episode to fully explore both Marc's mental state and potentially even the Overvoid and the many other Gods locked away by The Ennead.

Taweret is certainly an intriguing addition to the MCU, anyway, and someone actress Antonia Salib previously said is part of the "emotional journey that Steven and Marc are going through."

@McMurdo - I finished it and there is one that I didn't. Imo it had way too many characters and was too long. But even with that addressed it never would have been that big imo. It's lacking...... soul.

After Loki, this has definitely been my favourite of the Disney+ shows and a Phase 4 standout.

@PlusUltra - this show needs to stick its landing, nay, it HAS to. if it does it will definitely become the top dog of the MCU D+ shows.

If I can compliment Marvel on anything for the past year, it's their attempt to spice things up and create more variety in their projects.
Wandavision and Eternals worked best for me on that level, and this episode, more than any before it, brought the same effect. I would have never guessed that it was an MCU production if I didn't already know.
That mummy disemboweling scene was pretty cool and somewhat surprising. And the end of course was really neat. Although I don't think anyone believes that it was all in Mark's head. That mental insitute looked too freaky to be real.
And Steven, my man, kissing a married woman? Come on man.

On a side note, has anyone been having issues accessing this website today?

I like that they keep teasing the third personality without really calling all that much attention to it, it could've easily become like a big plot point by itself but they just move past it every time. "someone is killing people but it's neither Marc or Steven...oh well, lets move on", "hmm, a third sarcophagus on this weird abstract mental palace with someone inside, weird...oh hey, a talking hippo".

I love how they have settled into a nice 'Action-Adventure-Horror' niche on this show. The entire sequence with that crazy thing in the tomb was great and I hope that's not the last of that sort of thing we see in the show. Ditto for the sarcophagus bouncing all over the place. Great use of imagery to expand the mystery

This episode was weak to me. It had all the pieces there for this to be a great episode. Hopefully episode 4 is setting up 5 to be dynamite. Still a good series though.

This episode had legit horror aspects to it. When layla was grabbed could've been a legit jump scare.

The show is definitely getting weird but not in a bad way. I'm going to have to defer to other people to decipher this episode because I'm sure I missed a lot of Easter eggs and what not watching it with my daughter

Big Mummy vibes in this episode. Ammit's zombie-fied sorcerer guard was legit creepy.

They really are pushing the boundaries of what they're allowed to show on a Disney+ original. That mummification scene was brutal, for what it was.

And Taweret caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting them to show another god besides Khonsu in person. And I wonder if all the gods in the MCU are familiar with one another. Like, has Taweret met Thor? The places my mind goes..

@comicfan100 - a YouTube reviewer brought up a thought that I myself had after episode 3 when we met the Gods' avatars: the number of "watchers" in the MCU is growing larger and larger.

By watchers, he means gods. There is a plethora of different gods and cosmic being now. You think to the comics and there are so many pantheons, some of which do converse with one another and know of another, while some do not. Its interesting to see that now taking place in the MCU.

I think a good comparison is that the Earth is like a ZOO and/or SAFARI and the numerous pantheons of gods are like the visitors to that zoo. You go to a zoo and you walk by other visitors without having a relationship with them but you're here to watch, visit, and take in the zoological park or to see is huimans in our natural habitat.

This episode was just brilliant. It captures the essence of Lemire's run soooo much while doing it's own thing. The horror vibes through the tombs, the emotions. I really got a full fledged "The Descent" vibes from it that the directors Moorhead and Benson talked about in an interview a month or so ago.

Then to just hit us with this purgatory kind of situation where it makes us rethink a lot is huge. Taweret being there really shows there might be some kind of rebirth aspect happening, and that ammit is preying on that broken mind of Marc, which is a common theme in this show and comics.

Oh yeah, I can't wait for Jake to be unleashed :)

Also, Oscar continues to mesmerize in the role along with Hawke and May Calamawy, who just KILLS it during the reveal of her father's death with Harrow and then to Marc.

Enough to bring Marc out over Steven. Just fantastic.

I loved the Fight Club, Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Shutter Island, and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest influences in this episode. Seeing Taweret at the end was fantastic. The visuals in the Psychiatric Ward were marvelous. The horror elements in this episode were also outstanding. The second sarcophagus is another hint at Jake Lockley. Arthur Harrow shooting Marc Spector was cool-blooded. Marc Spector and Steven Grant's interaction in the Psychiatric Ward was a fantastic scene. Layla vs Heka Priest was creepy as hell.
