Another batch of promo stills for the upcoming Disney+ Moon Knight series have been shared online (via @UniverCBMTrollsex), and one of the images spotlights the enigmatic Egyptian deity known as Khonshu.
We got a quick glimpse of this ancient bird-like entity in the recent trailer, but here we get a much better look at the creature we see tormenting Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac). Of course, fans will be aware that Grant ultimately learns that he is, in fact, a mercenary named Marc Spector, and while he may initially believe that Khonshu is a figment of his fractured psyche, the Moon God turns out to be very real.
In the comics, Khonshu chooses Spector to be his latest champion (or, Avatar) and serve as a link between the extradimensional realm of Celestial Heliopolis and Earth. It remains to be seen if the show will follow suit or make a few alterations to the source material.
Check out the still below, along with some new shots of Spector.
The show has Cairo 678 director Mohamed Diab behind the camera, and we found out last year that the Disney+ series has also enlisted Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead (The Endless, Synchronic) to helm additional episodes. Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy; The Exorcist) will serve as showrunner, and is leading the show's writing team.
Plot details are still under wraps, but the small-screen adaptation is expected to stick pretty close to the basic premise of the comic, with Marc Spector, a highly skilled mercenary who has numerous alter-egos, channelling the power of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu to fight crime in LA.
A recent synopsis stated that "the action-adventure features a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him are distinct characters who appear against a backdrop of Egyptian iconography."
