It was back in January we first heard that Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) had been cast in the Werewolf by Night Halloween Special coming to Disney+ from Marvel Studios. Gael Garcia Bernal had already been cast as the title character, and it was mentioned at the time that Donnelly could be taking on the role of Nina Price, someone better known to comic book fans as Vampire by Night.
Well, The Cosmic Circus has shared a very exciting update, revealing that the actress is, in fact, playing the monster-hunting Elsa Bloodstone. In the comic books, Elsa wears the Bloodgem, an artefact that grants her enhanced strength, speed, endurance and agility as well as invulnerability to physical harm. She also gained possession of a lamp containing an enslaved genie that glows when supernatural trouble is occurring and can transport her to its location if she wishes.
Moon Knight's first appearance was in an issue of Werewolf by Night, which saw the hero take aim at the monster. However, it's feasible this Halloween Special will see Elsa target him instead.
Alternatively, she could be involved with the Midnight Sons team, the Legion of Monsters, or even part of Nextwave, a group created by H.A.T.E (Highest Anti-Terrorism Effort) who used to fight against "Unusual Weapons of Mass Destruction." Whatever her role may entail, we're intrigued by what she will bring to the table in Werewolf by Night and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Composer Michael Giacchino is directing the special, with the expectation being that it will arrive on Disney+ this October. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will share official details on the project soon.
