It often feels like The Incredible Hulk has become the black sheep of the Marvel Cinematic Universe family, but we're finally starting to see it revisited in meaningful ways. The Abomination just appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and is set to make a full-blown return in the She-Hulk series coming to Disney+.

In that 2008 movie, we saw how a botched version of the Super Soldier Serum transformed Emil Blonsky into a hulking monster, and while he was eventually defeated, there's definitely room to better explore the villain. The Hollywood Reporter recently asked Roth what made him want to return to the MCU, and he opened up on the experience of being Abomination again.

"I did The Incredible Hulk years ago, just because I thought my kids would be embarrassed by it. I did it for them and I really enjoyed making it," he explained. "So when they came to me and said: 'We’re adapting the She-Hulk thing. Can you come back as that character again?' I was like, sure. It should be fun."

"I was very surprised though because it was difficult at first," Roth added, likely referring to his motion-capture performance. "It was only when Mark Ruffalo came in to shoot his stuff [reprising his role as Bruce Banner] that I went: 'Oh, that’s how you do it! With a sense of humor!'"

That comment is interesting, because, assuming Roth does mean mo-cap, we actually saw that The Hulk had returned to his Bruce Banner form in Shang-Chi's mid-credits scene. There's no reason he can't Hulk out again, of course, and if anything is going to trigger that transformation, it's Abomination's return.

She-Hulk is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022!
