With the launch of shows like Superman & Lois and Naomi, it feels like The CW is looking to move on to a new era of DC stories which are not quite as closely tied to the "Arrowverse." One upcoming show is Gotham Knight (set in its own timeline), a series we know will follow "Bruce Wayne's rebellious adopted son" in the wake of the Dark Knight's murder as he's forced to "forge an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman's enemies after they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader."
According to Murphy's Multiverse, the network is looking to cast an actor who is 18 or older to take on the role of Dick Grayson, the former Robin who becomes Nightwing (a character who seems to have been relegated to television by Warner Bros.). Stephanie Brown is another likely addition of the same age, and she's a character who has gone by Spoiler and Robin in the comic books; however, she's also the daughter of the villainous Cluemaster, so perhaps that's how she factors into proceedings?
Harper Row, a.k.a. Bluebird, is being cast and The CW is searching for a female to play the "blue-haired bisexual" character who is said to have taken to the streets to escape her abusive home life. They're also looking to cast a transgender actor as her brother, Cullen. Both are the children of a Gotham City gangster in the source material (so, not exactly one of Batman's greatest foes).
Finally, the site adds that the network may also be hoping to add Julia Pennyworth, Lucius Fox's daughter, and the child of "the most dangerous man in Gotham." They speculate that might be The Joker's alleged daughter, Duela Dent, though nothing has been confirmed in that respect.
Unless the parents of the characters above are being changed, the show's leads don't exactly sound like any prominent "children of Batman's enemies." Most fans expect to see the kids of bad guys like Poison Ivy and Two-Face, but that could have definitely veered into silly, cheesy territory.
We're certainly intrigued by what The CW is planning with Gotham Knights, though it does only have a pilot order at this stage. If the network isn't impressed by that, there's a chance it will never see the light of day. However, something tells us they'll want to capitalise on the popularity of Batman's world!
Are you looking forward to Gotham Knights?
