VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Concept Art Features Some Potentially Controversial Religious Imagery

Venom: Let There Be Carnage's final battle took place in a church, and newly revealed concept art plays around with religious imagery in a way that could have been considered controversial in some circles.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage may not have been a masterpiece, but it sure was a lot of fun. Seeing Venom come to blows with Carnage proved to be exactly what comic book fans had been hoping for from the two characters on screen. Their final battle took place in a church (a familiar location for Eddie Brock on the page), and some new concept art puts a different spin on their titanic clash.

Shared by artist Stephane Levallois, these amazing pieces feature a lot more religious iconography, with Carnage transforming himself into a Pope-like figure to taunt his most hated foe.

At one point, it looks like Carnage was actually going to crucify Eddie, placing a Crown of Thorns atop Venom's head, As cool as that might have been to see on screen, it goes without saying that this might have been a tad too controversial for a PG-13 blockbuster! The fight ended with Cletus Kasady's death, of course, so we're not banking on a rematch when Venom 3 finally rolls around.

When we spoke to director Andy Serkis last year, we asked him whether a third movie could finally take Venom down that "Lethal Protector" route. "For sure. To arrive at that point, we needed to have this film to get those relationships cooking," the filmmaker explained. "I do think there’s huge fertile ground for Lethal Protector stories, definitely."

Take a look at this concept art from the sequel in the Instagram posts below:
