"The next legend is you" that's the tag line for this game but once you set off into the world of Dc Universe the real tag line reveals the truth really is in fact "Limited in every way"

Now let me explain a bit I was in the Beta, when the game came out I bought it (PC) and bought the Lifetime subscription of $199.99 with promise of "Monthly content" 3 months after release we got our 1st DL content a few cheap maps about Catwoman. Who Cares? On day 1 there were over 70k* users on PC alone fast forward 2 months the reported numbers were around 50k, The game was and IS a failure.

Let me Compare some things such as Content. A MMO services on content, games that have a Ton of content last longer, take for Example City of Heroes which recently went F2P That game even in its F2P mode offers over 40 cities, over 250 head pieces and over 2k armor pieces each with their own additions and addons, over 30 Raids and Large Dungeons to run some with up to 60 people and Huge boss fights, on the other hand DC offers you 2 cities, Very limited selection of Armor and super limited selection of powers and abilities. To top it off basic things like Electrical ground and other powers which were in games like Champions Online and City of Heroes on Day 1 are nowhere to be found.

Now lets get into Content some more in other MMOs a typical level 1 to Max out is usually 100hr+ and by then you will have seen about 70% of the game areas. In DC you got only 2 cities Gotham and Metropolis, you can level a character from 1 to Max in less then 20hr. And the real kicker is that you can do it without ever leaving your city.

Now I know that they are saying it was their intention from day 1 to go free to play. If that's the truth then the loyal fans such as myself were lied to and spit on with promises of special perks for being a lifer. Anyone who gets it now has access to the store as do I but I still need to pay for the stuff in it. So what do I actually get? "Legendary Status" the same thing anyone paying gets. If this is how I'm treated then why even bother?

Then there was the "MEGA SERVER" aka "No one is paying so merge all servers into 1" and guess what, population was still low. The monthly content they said would be coming has been moved to "2 times a year" the New DLC such as Green Lantern adds a few things like a new city but you can only go there in a linear mission.

In the end the reason I'm writing this article is to prevent people from making a mistake, DC Universe Online is like a trip to New York city its fun but not somewhere you want to live, it's dirty, smelly, and full of cracks and false promises in every direction. So before you take the 18gb download dive and expect the adventure of a lifetime just remember there are other free games that offer 900% more content and don't lie to you every chance they get!

@ arminies

i'd have to agree with what you said its not worth the money,i pay £10.00 a month.

i find the games missions are very repetitive nearly every mission is the same i.e carrying a sphere to one location, converting or healing someone, defeat so many police, hive soldiers, gangsters, sciencists, collecting green tokens & so on.

also the biggest problems for me are

-empty worlds
-glitches in the game
-i paid £3.99 for a space effect for my green lantern body, which never turned up
-it does get boring very quickly because of the repetitive nature of the game,i've got three level 30 characters & one which is about level 22.

the best bit of the game is designing you're hero or villain.

i try & make marvel heroes. :D

@marvel72 yeah it does get kind of repetitive. Especially for me since I design new characters probably twice a week ha. I have 2 level 30 characters and a level 26. I haven't upgraded much with them since I get caught up in making new ones all of the time. But PVP is what I like most about the game.

marvel72 and same here about marvel characters. I have Cyclops, Daredevil and Loki. And the best part is having alternate suits to change to and also changing the colors. I have several for Cyclops and for Daredevil i have his red suit and the original with the yellow and dark red. It looks pretty bada$$ I must say.

@ jduke

it does take the piss now that you can get the full game for free,i paid £42.99 for it back in febuary.

yeah i like designing new characters & villains all the time, but i do get pissed off playing that brainiac bit over & over again.

characters i've created so far.....

heroes

-superior man (30)
-superior woman (30)
-abitrator (22 green lantern)
-emerald exobyte (3 green lantern, looks like silver surfer but green)

villains

-annihilator prime (30)
-weapon omega (4 sinestro corp)
-onslaught prime (3 sinestro corp)

Heroes
-avatarr (30 green lantern)
-piccolo (14)
-daredevill (13)
-cyclops (11)
-manosteel (9)

villains
-dark side (30)
-icecooler (26)
-prof zoom (18, went ahead and just made him apart of the sinestro corps)
-just uke (10 sinestro corps)

I'd say the bow is my favorite weapon style. I have that with my level 30 green lantern.

@ jduke25

i like brawling & hand blasts the best, cyclops & daredevil quite easy & good characters to make, cyclops would look fantastic with heat vision.

i created colossus & dr.doom but i deleted them,i'm also trying to make the flash thompson venom & being happy enough to keep it.

@marvel72 i hear ya. I've tried making him but it's definitely a challenge. Gets your creative juices flowing trying to make something look like something else. I was going to try and make carnage and give him duel wield weapon style.

Yeah, with certain characters you gotta be in the mood to play as them. My avatar character was originally the blue avatar from the movie and i gave him sorcery powers. Got through watching it and decided to make it and got to level 30 in about 3 days. (can't play all day lol) I'm wanting to get my superman and loki characters leveled up because once Avengers gets here I know i'm going to want to play as loki and same goes for supes. I'm starting an Iron Man hero, cuz i know in the tier 2 gear they have a helmet that looks almost exactly like his.

@ jduke25

your manosteel is cool mate,as for venom i've been using the military chest, rifle & a full mask look, colour him black & white & he looks alright.

but i'm gonna have to try some different idea's.
