Ubisoft Developing Movie Adaptations Of FAR CRY, WATCH DOGS And More

Ubisoft Motion Pictures are clearly keen on establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood as they are now moving ahead with adaptations of Far Cry, Rabbids and Watch Dogs. They join Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.

Variety reports that Ubisoft Motion Pictures are now planning another wave of films based on some of their best-selling video game properties. As with the three previously announced adaptations above, they will take an active role in their development in an effort to ensure that they surpass the typically awful video game movies. Watch Dogs won't actually be released until this November, but Far Cry and Rabbids (this would also be live-action, but would contain a mixture of CG characters similar to The Smurfs for example) are two of their most well-known franchises. Maintaining creative control means that Ubisoft has a say in everything from the hiring of screenwriters and director to which studio the project ultimately lands at. However, perhaps "adaptations" is the incorrect word to use for these movies. These are not adaptations," UMP CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet stresses. "We will create a brand new story. Always." This apparently involves working closely with the developers of the video games to ensure that there are no overlaps.

Watch Dogs would make for a good movie with everything i've seen from it so far however it's too early to adapt it into live action.

So, these are movies based on games but their only relation to the games is the name? Maybe the basic premise when it comes to Assassin's Creed. Well then, now I'm not too sure. I want to see Desmond go into the animus and relive Altair's memories. I want that sort of basic premise with elements off different the different games in the movies. Similar to Prince of Persia and Mortal Kombat. I might be takin this the wrong way. Can someone explain to me if I'm taking the "not adaptations" comment the wrong way and misinterpreting it or not?

Rather see games like The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania and Duke Nukem on the big screen. You know games which has become classics.

Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Sonic The Hedgedog animation movies would be [frick]ing sweet. :)

Oh and please move forward already with that Metal Gear Solid movie.

From what I can tell the mechanics of Watch Dogs "controlling the city with a cell phone" could make for a really cool movie. Of course I'm looking forward to the game first and foremost.

AlexDeLarge: None of those games really have strong characters or stories to really become movies. Unless you want a crap Disney/Pixar movie for some of the ones you named like Zelda and Crash. I love their movies but a lot of them the exception of Toy Story 3 have been shit since The Incredibles came out.

also, no deal 4 Fillion playing Drake. he's like what? mid 40's? While Nate, i assume, is supposed to be in his mid-to-late 20's, early 30's at worst? not a good fit imo.

with that said, Hemsworth or Gyllenhal would make a perfect Drake but i'd prefer someone else more out of the box. how about Richard Madden (Robb Stark from GoT)?

Too bad Fillion is too old, now. He would be the perfect Drake, but his age and fitness would compromise what would be required.

I'd rather see a Rayman movie before a Rabbids movie. I frickin' hate those things...Why do think Origins was such a breath of fresh air?

As for the other movies, this could be all great news if they don't end up like Hitman

For Assassin's Creed, I hope they base it on the comic book "The Fall". It's amazing, and really befitting the screen treatment.
