ATOMIC BLONDE Actress Charlize Theron Was Offered A Role In WONDER WOMAN But Was Forced To Turn It Down

Charlize Theron has been fan-cast as Wonder Woman herself for many years, and it turns out the Academy Award-winning actress almost took a role as a different character in the recent big-screen adaptation.

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Theron revealed that Monster director Patty Jenkins did approach her about re-teaming for Diana's first solo film, but that she was forced to pass it up:

“No, I’m not in Wonder Woman. We’re friends. I think the world of her. We have a mutual respect for each other. She did come to me, and at the time I was either working on something or I don’t know. There was a reason I couldn’t do it.”

Though Theron doesn't specify which part she was offered, it was most likely either Antiope (Robin Wright) or Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen).

It's a shame that Jenkins and Theron couldn't work something out, but there is always the inevitable sequel that's expected to be officially announced this weekend at SDCC. Perhaps Theron would be a good fit for one of the roles in the follow-up?

I think she is an amazing actress, but not having seen Atomic Blonde, I don't know how she is at action. I bet she could pull it off though, if they did a version of WW like Cathy Crosby in the 70's

That just leaves her available to play Circe later on.

Funny, because I think that Atomic Blonde should be more of the "breakout female led film" than Wonder Woman has been proclaimed to be.

@Forthas - Atomic Blonde is practically female John Wick. It's even directed by one of the Wick directors.

@Forthas - Still whining over WW I see........

@Forthas - what's new about atomic blonde? There have been many female led action films, just ask Scarlett Johansson, and Wonder Woman was that for superhero movies, whether you agree with the general consensus or not haha people liked it man

@EnnisFan - I think that ONLY Angelina Jolie really brought solid women le action films...until Charlize Theron came along. With her roles in Fury Road, Fast and Furious and Now Atomic Blonde... to me she is the fact of strong women in the action/fantasy movie genre.

@JoeMomma29 - Still trolling and trying to be the head cheerleader for DC...I see

@Battabing - I think that is my point...I hope it is received as well if not better and I hope Charlize gets to be the next (or first) Jane Bond because I think her body of work and the actress herself has earned it.

@Forthas - so why would Atomic blonde be a "breakout female led film" if you just acknowledged that here have been successful ones before it and from reviews and box office competition seems to not really be anything too special, that's why it seems like you're just making a random comment to denigrate WW. It's ok if you don't like it but it was the "breakout female led film" for the superhero genre without question

@EnnisFan - It actually has to do with two points 1) the star in the role and 2) building the role based on talent rather than franchise.

Actresses like Daisy Ridley and Gal Gadot have not demonstrated the talent to shoulder a film and based on their own accomplishment make it successful. Charlize has the acting chops to pull it off. Bot Ridley and Gadot signed on to already popular franchises...in a sense it was not earned. If either of them were starring in Atomic Blonde, I am not sure they could carry the film. But Charlize star power coupled with her now history of doing traditionally action roles is what is causing the buzz around the film.

Add to that Theron is over 40 years old and she is accomplishing what Jolie did not, showing that you don't have to be in your 20's and 30's to be a female action star.

I don't make random comments!

@Forthas - I don't see how any of what you said is relevant at all to a "breakout female led film", so because Gal Gadot is a newcomer and in first WW film her success counts less? And again the consensus is that she had a great performance in the movie. You're starting to stray from your original point into somewhere frankly convoluted haha you're saying that because Charlize Theron is older and had a longer career to get to this newcomers don't deserve praise? Dailey Ridley Gal Gadot and any upcoming actresses must concede all praise to older, more established actresses?

Nonetheless you've somewhat abandoned your original comment

@EnnisFan - OK read what I wrote...

"...so because Gal Gadot is a newcomer and in first WW film her success counts less?"

Yeah! Did people go to see Gal Gadot or Wonder Woman?

...you're saying that because Charlize Theron is older and had a longer career to get to this newcomers don't deserve praise?"

Yeah! I don't think it is a very well kept secret that both "newcomers" are part of existing multi billion dollar franchises that have built in fan base. Their performance or the expectation of it is not a factor in the success of their respective films. That is kind of obvious! Also I see you left out "woman" after the word older and your reference to her longer career which is the point of what I originally stated. I cannot help it if you cannot connect the dots.

Dailey Ridley Gal Gadot and any upcoming actresses must concede all praise to older, more established actresses?

No! Jennifer Lawrence has a body of success that is not dependent on being part of a franchise. It is the critical acknowledgment of her talents. And she is around the same age if not younger than Ridley and Gadot.

Instead of choosing to try to find issues with what I stated...why not just READ IT instead of trying to inject your own ideas into the statement and then proclaiming it is something I meant stated.

@Forthas - haha dude they were rhetorical questions because I find your thought process to be ridiculous. I obviously read what you said and I just disagree. And still none of this has anything to do with your original point

@EnnisFan - Ok...So you are unable to comprehend!

Thanks I get it now!
