CW President Talks AMAZON, Batman And Adapting Other DC Properties

The CW's Mark Pedowitz discusses the planned Wonder Woman pilot Amazon, and any potential conflicts with the character's inclusion in WB's Justice League. He then confirms that more DC properties will be explored, but Batman won't be one of them.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association today, The CW president Mark Pedowitz talked about the network's planned Wonder Woman pilot, Amazon. Earlier today, we heard comments from him confirming that they have yet to receive a script, and they're currently busy casting Diana. Here, he also discusses any potential conflicts with Warner Bros., since Wonder Woman will inevitably be featured in the studio's Justice League movie, which may be released in 2015. "We worked carefully with Warner Bros. to make sure Warner Bros. theatrical was onboard so we were able to get it done. You want to work carefully with your studio to make sure that it works and that it doesn’t interfere with their projects." Also, it has been speculated that Amazon could crossover with CW's current hit series Arrow, despite that show apparently being too realistic/grounded to feature superpowered beings. Pedowitz had this to say on the possibility. "I think they all could exist in the same world, but whether they do or they don’t is depending on what the showrunner wants to do."

Due to the success of Arrow and Smallville, it shouldn't come as a surprise that more DC Comics properties will likely be developed on The CW. "Arrow’s success, when you have Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg as your showrunners, that has a lot to do with that success and we hope Allan Heinberg will have the same success with what Amazon will be. But it does help, in terms of that," says Pedowitz. "In terms of other DC characters, we will explore other DC characters, but we also do a lot of exploration of a lot of other material with a lot of other great producers."

However, there is at least one famous DC character who definitely won't be appearing on the network anytime soon: Batman. For the past decade, WB and DC wouldn't allow the Caped Crusader to be used on live action television, including a guest appearance on Smallville. Despite Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy being finished, Pedowitz confirms that The CW is still unable to create a Batman show, or even have him appear on Arrow. "At this time, no. And regarding your next question, regarding is Batman going to make a trip to [Arrow’s] Starling City, they’re not in the same state."

Arrow returns on January 16th at 8 PM EST. If any, which DC Comics character would you like to see The CW adapt?

No Batman = Fail.
Arrow is already using Batman characters. I mean, really. Why not just make it a Batman show? It'd be just about the same thing and it'd be infinitely better just because it's the Goddamn Batman.

They should make a Nightwing show and have crossovers with Arrow

I don't think they could make a great Batman show unless they had a big budget and the right people. A lot of you guys were talking a lot smack about Wonder Woman. Do you seriously think they have the budget to give the character a proper take. That's why the hulk show will be canceled because it won't give justice to hulk.

Warner Bros., who will inevitably be featured in the studio's Justice League movie, which may be released in 2015.

lmbo, "may be released" :P

I can't wait for CW to make a teen driven movie starring reluctant hero tony "the animal" mann as he spends the next 10 years developing his powers to become ANIMAL MAN.

thank buddha for man of steel because dc is failing hard.

DC is not failing hard. They just don't have the right passionate people working on there charachters but i think Man of Steel is a move in the right direction. DC has all there characters under one house. It's just a matter of time now.

Based on how SmallVille turned out I think WB should make DICK

@PantherX- I do. It just matters all on Man Of Steel. Everything is riding on that film. If Green Lantern would have been sucessful I'm pretty sure WB plans would be different. If Man Of Steel isn't sucessful than we could probably kiss JL film goodbye.

I'm telling you guys right now if Batman has a cameo after credits scene in Man Of Steel that will be the most significant moment in comicbook movies history! Batman and Superman!!! Even if its less than a minute.

I am actually worried about Justice Leauge, with the recent release of Gangster Squad and its poor reception. The guy who penned the movie is doing Justice Leauge.

i actually mad a fancast and turned the GA cast into a Flash series using CW stars. I would've preferred they make a Cyborg and Preacher for CW and work on some new cartoons. I'm working on casting cyborg and Preacher for a fun fancast as well as story-boarding Hawkworld, The (Secret) Society and a Flask ala Barry Allen cartoon. That way I'm happy in my pretend world where DC doesn't botch great opportunities.

Stop butchering DC properties please.

Stop turning them into cheesy teen drama.

If you can't do a character properly, then don't [frick]ing do it! (Darkseid, Doomsday, Blue Beetle, Martian Manhunter, Deadshot, etc.)

Agree with the if you dont have the budget dont touch it. It would still be great to see batman show up. Seems like warner bros is too scared to give people what they want.

And Batman doesn't have a car or a plane, so he can't possibly visit Starling City.

@Jollem That's hilarious.

Yeah the scuttlebutt is that if WB can't nail down a director soon Justice League moves to 2016. Of course after the horrible reviews Gangster Squad got they might be reconsidering Will Beal's script as well.

Who cares if WB is making a movie about Wonder Woman? They should be allowed as much creative freedom as they need, that's what makes good television not studio interference.

I think IMO, that that they should make shows for characters like Wonder Woman and the flash and along with Arrow, keep it within the continuity of the movies and mix both tv and cinema together. It could create a deeper chronology and understanding for all characters!

Errrrggghhhhh. Everything cant be nolan style. You would miss out on so many characters. If you dont like superpowers then watch or read something else. Batman exists in books with characters with powers. Allies and rogues both. It worked for nolans movies cause thats the world he committed to for his films.

If Batman can't get his own show, I want to see Bruce Wayne/Batman make an appearance on Arrow at least!
