WONDER WOMAN 1984: Chris Pine's Steve Trevor Is Alive And Well In The 80s In First Still From The Sequel

Well, this is an unexpected surprise. Rumours have been swirling that Chris Pine's Steve Trevor would show up in Wonder Woman 1984 but the first official image from the photo confirms that Diana Prince's World War II love interest will be back among the living in the sequel. As you can see, he appears to have aged since the last time we saw him and is decked out in clothes from that era.

That latter points immediately debunks theories that he's just a figment of Wonder Woman's imagination and leaves us with a long list of questions; namely, how is he still alive and where has he been all these years? Whatever the answers may be, it's clear that Wonder Woman 1984 is going to take us to some unexpected places as the hero prepares to do battle with the villainous Cheetah.

Director Patty Jenkins captioned the image, "Welcome to WONDER WOMAN 1984, Steve Trevor!" so Pine is clearly playing the same character here. What are your theories? Share your thoughts below.

Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah. Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ follow up to the Super Hero’s first outing, last summer’s record-breaking “Wonder Woman,” which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. “Wonder Woman 1984” will also be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role.

As previously announced, the film also stars Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal. And Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.

Joining her behind the scenes are several members of Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” team, including director of photography Matthew Jensen, Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (“Amélie”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). Oscar-nominated editor Richard Pearson (“United 93”) will cut the film.

Production will take place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.

Set to open in theaters November 1, 2019, “Wonder Woman 1984” is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Really curious about how this plays out. Pine as Trevor was perfect and the chemistry with Gal was as well.

His death had A LOT of weight in the film to help shape her as a character...but i'd love to see more of his take in more movies in the universe.

I'm so conflicted.

I really don’t know how I feel about this. The only way I wanted Trevor back was via a hallucination, flashback or some sort of spirit guide/magical journey element.

Patty has earned the benefit of the doubt though, I’m sure she knows what she’s doing but it still makes me a little uneasy.

@FromACertainPOV - I have heard theory's that the pool Trevor was in on the island was the Lazarus Pit or some version of it. It explains why the woman on the island never age.

@SWelch - Yeah I’ve heard that too, I still don’t know how I feel about it though.

At least he’s not playing his own descendant though because that would have been both ridiculous and creepy, so we've got that.

@SWelch - Does the Lazarus Pit keep people from dying after being blown to little bits and then falling a couple hundred feet. That's not the Lazarus Pit....that would be Achilles river of Styx.

@MrDandy - Remember we didn't not actually see him die. All we saw was from Diana's point a view which was a big flash of light in the sky in the clouds. For all we know he found a chute and jumped out at the last minute.

It would be the same explanation that Ed Brubaker used when bring back Bucky. He said that we never actually saw him die. we just aw things from Cap's point of view so he never saw Bucky die. He just assumed he did.

@SWelch - So he jumped out with a parachute and proceeded for 60 years to not tell Diana he was alive....when he would have landed feet from her?

I get what you're saying but the editing makes it clear what happens and anything otherwise would be a massive retcon.

More likely it is fantasy based with a God saving him or resurrecting him.

@MrDandy - First of all Since we never actually saw the plane explode we don't know how high he was up. We don't know how injured he was. When he landed he could have been captured. Or so injured he had no memory of he he was. If he was captured maybe those who did saw him heal from his wounds quickly and held him to study.

What I am saying there are many reasons why he doesn't show up until now. There is also a lot of time between the first movie and the new movie. Maybe she already knows he is alive and how that happened could explained in flashback.

Glad Chris Pine is back but the execution needs to be there. The 70mm IMAX film probably has me most excited about this movie.

@regularmovieguy - Would've been better if it had remained silent due to the explosion rather than being flashbacked to.
