Bryan Singer Eases Fans' Concerns About X-MEN: DOFP Costumes

When costume designer Louise Mingenbach was announced as rejoining Singer on the sequel to X-Men: First Class, many fans assumed the worst - more generic, leather outfits for the characters. Well, the latest Tweet from the director should assuage concerns..

There was quite a stir on here when Mingenbach offcially returned to work with Bryan Singer on X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Why? Well, she was the one responsible for the matching leather costumes in X1 and 2 that fans hated so much, and that means she was going to go the same route with this movie right? Well, no - obviously. But for the fans that feared the worst, Singer has taken to Twitter..

Doesn't get much clearer than that does it? Obviously we don't know if this means we'll be getting costumes faithful to the comic books, but it should appease those leather-phobes among you anyway.

Doesn't matter what type of suits they use, people will still complain I never had a problem with the leather suits.

This isn't 2000 leather suits didn't look good then wouldn't look good now. So glad they aren't coming back. Hope to really see something more similar to the comics and give everyone's costume something unique. The ones in the other films all looked the same.

You guys who hated the costumes so much need to put things into context. X-Men was a VERY risky movie for everyone involved..I'm sure I don't need to go into why. They were always gonna have to downplay certain elements, and matching outfits were just a safer option than flamboyant, colored gear. Then why change it up in the sequel when it worked? And it did work, whether you personally liked it or not. Now that the franchise is so established and First Class added a bit of color, I would also like a bit of variation in each character's costume..but if there isn't, it's not gonna be the end of the world - I'm more concerned with little things like, y'know, the actual quality of the movie!

Whatever. Those leather costumes probably looked a hell of a lot better than the comic ones. X:FC had it right with that blue black combo. Compromise people. Compromise.

I don't think the leather was the problem... It was the lack of color that turned fanboys ravenous towards the outfits. Just add color!!!

The X-Men each have a recognizable feature so they don't even need costumes. Very few of them look normal.

The leather costumes were fine for the first film, but even Singer said they would go on to branch out and become individualistic with their costumes as the movies went on. All we got was color changes in the lines on the leather suits...... Wow. I want to see them in legit comic costumes.

Speaking of 20th Century Fox... if you have not seen Prometheus — there's a good reason the reviews are mixed. Felt like reading a 9th Grader's essay, starts off with an intelligent thesis but never quite follows through with a complete resolution. Let's say: I'm glad I rented it for a dollar through Redbox.

@RSDhillon no problem

I think they should have those designs, but make them out of a tougher material to give them some form of protection.
