Did Hugh Jackman Confirm Famke Janssen's Cameo In THE WOLVERINE?

While chatting with the magazine, Parade, Hugh Jackman was asked to provide a scoop about his and director James Mangold's The Wolverine. And he didn't disappoint, as he revealed that there will be a cameo by a past X-Men. Are the rumors of a Jean Grey cameo true?

PARADE: Give us a little scoop on the film.
You want to get me into trouble, don’t you? [laughs] Okay, the movie takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand. My character is at his lowest. He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him. And there is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it.

Okay, so why is it Famke Janssen? Relax, I'll tell you. Let's start at the beginning of this rumor. On October 1st, MTV News, caught up with Famke and asked the actress if her X-Men character, Dr. Jean Grey, might return.

"One never knows," Famke said coyly. "Jean Grey, the Phoenix … she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows."

Then a few weeks later, the website, We Got This Covered, reported that Famke had flown out to Sydney, where The Wolverine was being filmed, so that she could shoot a cameo. Now, factoring in what Hugh Jackman said, I would have to believe we will see Famke's Jean Grey rise from the ashes once more.

Thanks to Blanket-Man for the scoop!

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), from a script written by Christopher McQuarrie.. The cast includes: Hugh Jackamn (Logan/Wolverine), Svetlana Khodchenkova (Viper), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shingen), Hal Yamanouchi (Yashida), Tao Okamoto (Mariko), Rila Fukushima (Yukio), Brian Tee (Norubo Mori), and Will Yun Lee (Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai). The film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... why would they want to put that Jean Grey back in there? She's already shown her acting talents. Something we can do without. Just give it to Marvel Studios already.

The fact that it takes place after Last Stand, is one of the cons about this movie.smdh

Its just a cameo so no matter who it is it wont matter to the story

If that's true, that means Jean Grey is officially alive, which is great news. I can't believe she was killed off in the first place.

I hope FOX decides to reveal Cyclops was never killed. They could just say he ran off due to being distraught over Jean Grey being taken over by the Phoenix Force.

I'm still mad that Cyclops was killed off in X-Men:TLS. Brett Ratner obviously never picked up a X-Men comic in his life.

@nailbiter Great scoop. Nice to see you are Onatopp of things. ;)

@polarkyle, well, actually, it sounds as if Mariko may get killed in the movie. Then, Jean Grey shows up as a "nice" Phoenix. And then, because Wolvie finally has honor and just wants Jean to be happy, they both decide to realign the time stream to bring Cyclops back. I don't even like the movies that much. I'm that good.

I think that most of the characters were not potrayed as their comic book counterparts, not because of the actors but because of the script. In each of the X men films, Cyclops always in the shadow of Wolverine. Never in any of the movies he felt like a leader and the whole Jean Grey love triangle just was not potrayed as well as in the comics. And since when did Colosus turn out to be some low tier character in the Xmen. This guy only got four words to say in the entire [frick]ing franchise.

Shes smokin' hot & a decent actress.

NOTICE: To everyone with a brain please acknowledge this fact..there has NEVER been a comic book movie that is exactly like the comics & I highly doubt there ever will be.

Even Marvel Studios won't accomplish a "perfect comic book movie"...too many people envolved / interfering. Simple as that.

Jean Grey is definitely in The Wolverine. @nailbiter111 You forgot to mention the set picture that shows the Jean Grey School logo in tiles on the floor.

I'm looking forward to 20th Century Fox's Marvel films, I have to at least give them a chance to fix their mistakes from earlier. We're in a different world of comic book adaptations... filmmakers can deliver what the fans want.

@95, I'm certain the tiles were denied as being associated with The Wolverine, as they were for 2013's The Great Gatsby, as seen in the trailer:

Ratner should have never gotten his hands on this franchise. Whoever thought killing off 1/2 of the franchise's main characters to "up the stakes" needs to have their head examined.

@Nailbiter111. That's how I feel. When Whedon killed off Agent Coulson, it deeply affected the other main characters and greatly impacted the decisions they made in the story. When Ratner killed off or "cured" main characters, it had minimal impact on the other main characters. There was no bloody trading card moment. Someone died, someone else cried for about 10 seconds, and then they moved on to another death/cure scene.

I feel like Cyclops got the shaft when it comes to The Last Stand. Professor X dies, but he beamed his consciousness into the body of his twin. Jean Grey died, but her god-like Phoenix powers will somehow resurrect her for the next Wolverine movie. All those mutants who got "cured". Well it turns out the cure didn't last (at least according to Magneto's twitching chess piece in TLS), so they're all going to get their powers back eventually. Everything goes back to normal for everybody else, except for poor Cyclops, who got atomized by his girlfriend in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Once again it sucks to be James Marsden.

I'm fine with it I guess. Just have to roll with whatever they're doing over at Fox I guess... She's hot, and she made an alright Jean. Still, wish they had started over with First Class...... Or i wish Last Stand never happened.

But yeah, Halle Berry wasn't the best to play Storm, so I'd be fine with her not returning, or someone else taking on the role.

I'm glad to hear that Janssen ill reprise her role as Jean/Phoenix. I always thought she was the perfect Jean Grey.

I hope that Fox will take this opportunity and retcon the gawd awful X3 out of existence. Maybe, just maybe Singer will now be able to do his Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga justice. Perhaps pick up at the end of X2, where the Phoenix force was shown hovering underneath the water surface.
