The recent Fox X-Men films have made major strides towards fixing the “Mutant Cinematic Universe” and overall they have succeeded in making better films based on one of the most iconic teams in comic book history.
The X-Men are cool, there is no doubt about that and for the most part, the movies have showed us why the X-Men are awesome. There are still some characters that we need to see, such as Cyclops, Colossus, Rogue, Storm, and Cable to name a few but as far as we can tell, Fox plans to bring these characters into future installments.
X-Men movies should focus on the X-Men, not the Fantastic Four. Bringing the Fantastic Four into the X-Men Universe will take away from the fact that the Mutants and The X-Men are the center of that Universe. You don't want to go to an X-Men stand alone movie and wonder if The Thing and Reed Richards are going to show up, or wonder why The Fantastic Four didn't show up and save the day. The Fantastic Four are different than the X-Men. I don’t think anybody can argue that statement. Simon Kinberg addressed this during an interview last year,
“Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the ‘X-Men’ movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you’re like, “Oh, you’re just a mutant.” Like, “What’s so fantastic about you? […] So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is … they live in discrete universes.”
Kinberg then responded again a few months later stating,
“I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there’s some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.”
Personally, I feel that it should be out of the realm of possibility. Fox only has rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four and the Fantastic Four make more sense at Marvel. Shoehorning the Fantastic Four into an X-Men movie is going to be painful to watch because that’s exactly what Fox would be doing. Plus, as Kinberg said, “
they live in discrete universes” . On top of all that, the X-Men movies will be changing, a lot of the actors contracts are up, and Bryan Singer most likely won’t be returning. There is also a lot of excitement behind the New Mutants. Personally, I would rather see Fox focus on the X-Men and have Marvel utilize the Fantastic Four. Because, the Fantastic Four in the MCU would be absolutely amazing, and could easily be on the same level as the Avengers.

I was talking about this last week, and the funny thing about the Fantastic Four is that they are always related to the rest of the Marvel Universe. Somebody mentioned the Thing, and said, “Fant4stic’s Thing looks like he could go toe to toe with the Hulk”. My response was a “Yes”, followed by a “that sucks because we’ll never see that on screen”. Same with Johnny Storm meeting Spider-Man, Reed talking science with Stark, Pym, Banner, and T’Challa. Sue Storm in the MCU, the list goes on and on. Even further, Kang and the Avengers, Silver Surfer, Galactus, and of course Doctor Doom.
