The recent Fox X-Men films have made major strides towards fixing the “Mutant Cinematic Universe” and overall they have succeeded in making better films based on one of the most iconic teams in comic book history.

The X-Men are cool, there is no doubt about that and for the most part, the movies have showed us why the X-Men are awesome.  There are still some characters that we need to see, such as Cyclops, Colossus, Rogue, Storm, and Cable to name a few but as far as we can tell, Fox plans to bring these characters into future installments.

X-Men movies should focus on the X-Men, not the Fantastic Four.  Bringing the Fantastic Four into the X-Men Universe will take away from the fact that the Mutants and The X-Men are the center of that Universe.  You don't want to go to an X-Men stand alone movie and wonder if The Thing and Reed Richards are going to show up, or wonder why The Fantastic Four didn't show up and save the day.  The Fantastic Four are different than the X-Men.  I don’t think anybody can argue that statement.  Simon Kinberg addressed this during an interview last year,

“Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the ‘X-Men’ movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you’re like, “Oh, you’re just a mutant.” Like, “What’s so fantastic about you? […] So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is … they live in discrete universes.”

Kinberg then responded again a few months later stating,

“I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there’s some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.”

Personally, I feel that it should be out of the realm of possibility.  Fox only has rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four and the Fantastic Four make more sense at Marvel.  Shoehorning the Fantastic Four into an X-Men movie is going to be painful to watch because that’s exactly what Fox would be doing.  Plus, as Kinberg said, “they live in discrete universes” .  On top of all that, the X-Men movies will be changing, a lot of the actors contracts are up, and Bryan Singer most likely won’t be returning.  There is also a lot of excitement behind the New Mutants.  Personally, I would rather see Fox focus on the X-Men and have Marvel utilize the Fantastic Four.  Because, the Fantastic Four in the MCU would be absolutely amazing, and could easily be on the same level as the Avengers.

I was talking about this last week, and the funny thing about the Fantastic Four is that they are always related to the rest of the Marvel Universe.  Somebody mentioned the Thing, and said, “Fant4stic’s Thing looks like he could go toe to toe with the Hulk”.  My response was a “Yes”, followed by a “that sucks because we’ll never see that on screen”.  Same with Johnny Storm meeting Spider-Man, Reed talking science with Stark, Pym, Banner, and T’Challa.  Sue Storm in the MCU, the list goes on and on.  Even further, Kang and the Avengers, Silver Surfer, Galactus, and of course Doctor Doom.

What do you think about the crossover?  Sound off in the comments!!

First off thumbed !! Totally agree with you. With the exception of two or three X-Men I wouldn't even want them to interact with the Avengers. While they live in the same CB universe. They are very separated looked down upon and feared by the general population. Captain America is a hero, and Wolverine is a monster for example. What Fox fails to realize is just by having the X-Men they already have a universe. Concentrate on that. They don't even need to do origin stories. Just pick a couple of X-Men and make some solid team-up movies and watch the money roll in. If Fox ever gets it right they will be the top dog in the CBM race.

Once again good read and get those FF rights back to Marvel !!

There are currently NO plans for Fox to crossover the X-Men and Fantastic Four. As of now, they are their own separate thing.

Nice article!! I agree, totally. Bring the Fantastic Four home!!

@Darkknight2149

Actually, nobody knows this for sure, like it says in the article, Kinberg even adressed this and said it's in the "realm of possibility" I'm sure Fox has thought of crossing them over and there may even be plans, I hope there aren't but we don't know

It's going to be an alternate reality crossover. They will live in discrete universes, but will travel through parallel universes for the crossover movie.

Well, you know my answer.

When it comes to whether the rights to Fantastic Four should go back to Marvel, I think we need to see the new film before making that call. Keep in mind that no one has seen it because it hasn't been released.

As for X-Men, the rights should stay at Fox.

Thumbed but not read.

The X-Men are better off in their own universe. The comics are one thing, but it wouldn't make sense to add them to the MCU or throw in the FF.

Every X movie has dissappointed me. I like parts of them, elements, but there's no X movie that I really enjoy beginning to end. The FF, I won't see that in the theater either in the hopes that my 100 something dollars (me, my girl, 2 kids... gets pricey!) Is the difference that reverts the rights back to Marvel.

The thing with the FantasFantastic Four is they just work better in a larger un8veuniuniverse. It's like Spidey, they have individual stories but their characters, mythos and interactions are just more interesting when they include the larger Marvel U. The Xmen work great self contained because they are a large team and their individual stories are interesting but more then that their villains (challenges) are interesting on their own.

I definitely don't want to see the current Fant4stic team interact with anything X-Men related.

Mainly the cast,Miles Teller could be alright but I really don't like any of the other cast members.

Rumours are that this X universe will end after Apocalypse. This may be a start for a partnership with McU.......or to start off fresh again...

True, I've heard hints at that too

@DeusExSponge

I'm not sure what Fox's plans are for Wolverine, etc though, I know New Mutants is in the works but I'm not sure what direction their taking after Apocalypse. Apocalypse might end the Singer X-Men.... Not sure what's going to happen, you know

But, I want Fantastic Four to come home, X-Men makes sense as a separate universe

Ok. I don't mind being the a hole. The X-Men films weren't X-Men films. They were Wolverine films featuring the X-Men. Are they entertaining? Sure. But to add a franchise like the FF into what's already a weak ensemble movie is like diluting a Glenfiddich 25 with ginger ale. Pointless.

He says mutants? I remember you said you saw the movie.

Btw, did you see Trank's comments on Twitter, he said there were no test screenings? Vaughn said he saw Fant4stic too, so I found it weird that he said there were no screenings.

@DrKinsolving...wait...you're not drunk? On a Saturday night? Shame. You only live once and nothing heightens that like drinking Monkey Shoulder and hopping behind the wheel of a car. Basically what I'm saying is that social responsibility is super important. I think we've all learned that from the X flicks.

if FF is really good I don't want it back at marvel. I rather have a quality film than a film that's connected to other films for the sake of being connected. I trust Fox to make a quality film and I much rather see that than anything else
CaptainAmerica31
CaptainAmerica31 - 6/14/2015, 11:41 AM
And if you want me to be honest Fox has been making better CBMs than anyone ever since Tom R. Left. Now He's at Sony probably also infecting the MCU. Fox has been making better CBMs than Marvel lately so I trust them, even if they stray from material. The most successful CBM trilogy(TDK series) strayed away from the comics to but it is still to this day revered as the golden standard for not just CBMs but films in general. I loved TWS and GOTG but those are two gems in a pile of rocks. Fox is like the Luxury version of marvel films, the MCU is like the corporate McDonalds brand following a formula making burgers out of a machine. And you can't blame them I mean what other films could the make besides CBMs? But that being said marvel hasn't really made a movie that's been critically panned whereas Fox has but in Foxs defense ever since the CBM industry picked up every CBM they made that competed with MCU films outshines and was better than those MCU films even when the MCU produced top notch CBMs such as GOTG and TWS. I Just wish people would realize that Marvel is done after the Avengers Infinty war saga, all they'll have left is Spider-man and a bunch of D-list heroes who are probably not going to be D-list anymore. The public isn't going to care about the MCU once Iron-man/Cap/Thor/ and hulk leave. And if they decide to reboot theyll never match what the MCU once was
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 6/14/2015, 1:27 PM
@CaptainAmerica31

That's all a matter of opinion though

I like what Fox have been doing recently, but they haven't made a film that can compete with Iron Man 1, The Winter Soldier, Guardians of The Galaxy, Avengers, or Avengers: AOU, I can watch all of those films multiple times

DOFP was good but it's not that good on multiple viewings, imo. The Dark Knight trilogy was good aside from TDKRises, but even BB and TDK may not hold up as well today, especially after seeing how amazing Batman looks in Batman v Superman, TDK and BB are the Godfather of CBMs. First Class was good too.

But, it's all a matter of opinion.

And, Marvel won't be done. Inhumans literally comes out right after Infinity Wars. Marvel also has Spider-Man and characters like Doctor Strange and Black Panther and Captain Marvel will be established.

Marvel is also pushing the characters it owns more and more in the comics, not saying I like this, but it will make those characters more well known to the public

If anybody should be worried, it's Fox

Hugh Jackman is a major draw and Wolverine is probably the most recognized character they have, and he's gone after Wolverine 3. Jennifer Lawrence is another big draw and she's gone after Apocalypse.

Fox has more to worry about in that aspect than Marvel

Marvel is an established brand that people trust at the moment

And, I forgot to mention Ant-Man as one of those characters that Marvel will have too, and Ant-Man looks awesome from the trailers
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 6/14/2015, 1:31 PM
And, I don't think Marvel has ever said Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, and Thor will leave, they've actually said the exact opposite, especially about Iron Man, stating that it would be more like James Bond
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 6/14/2015, 1:36 PM
Personally, I think there are much better X-men characters that have not yet been used in the movies than the Fantastic 4 characters. They really do not need to force the F4 into the X-universe but if they do and works, thats a win for all of us!

MCU is awesome, and they could easily live on past the Infinity Wars

What about Guardians of the Galaxy, nobody knew who they were and that movie was awesome and did amazing at the Box Office

Your not making any sense, from what your saying, movies like Suicide Squad and even Fox's New Mutants shouldn't happen because the general public aren't familiar with them
