Hugh Jackman On His Hesitance To Return As WOLVERINE Yet Again

We'll be seeing Jackman in action as The Wolverine this summer and in 2014's X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but what about afterwards? Here, the Oscar nominated actor comments on his hesitance to continue in the role as well as what went wrong with X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In his impressive career, Hugh Jackman has done what few actors have done and consistently play one superhero on the big screen for over a decade. He starred as Wolverine (the role which really launched his career) in the X-Men trilogy, as well as the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He also cameo'd in X-Men: First Class, and will be returning to the iconic role in not one, but two upcoming films: The Wolverine on July 26th, and X-Men: Days Of Future Past on July 18th, 2014. There has been speculation as to whether or not Jackman will keep playing the character after Bryan Singer's "inbetweenquel", as he isn't signed on for any more films. Producer Hutch Parker recently said that a third solo Wolverine movie would have to have the right story to even consider it, and speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Jackman confirms this. However, he doesn't sound quite as optimistic about his future as Logan. "I wasn’t even sure after the first [stand-alone] film if I would do another. I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason." Parker weighs in, saying that recasting Wolverine would be "blasphemous".

Additionally, Jackman looks back on developing 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Commonly considered one of the worst comic book movies in recent history, the spin-off is often criticized for including/introducing far too many characters at once without properly developing them. In response to this, Jackman says that it was more like a fourth X-Men movie than a solo film starring Wolverine. "...we could have done better. Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men — just with different characters. I left unsure if we’d achieved our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character." Would you like to see Hugh Jackman return for more X-Men and/or Wolverine movies, or should someone else get a shot at playing Logan? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
