Simon Kinberg On Bringing X-MEN To The Small Screen And An R-Rated Deadpool Movie

Despite FOX apparently trying for the past few years to bring Deadpool to the big screen, and turning down Rhett Reese And Paul Wernick's script, Simon Kinberg seems to think it's a good idea to give it a shot, as long with making a TV Series based on the X-Men.

Now that Marvel Studios, Sony, and Warner Bros are all going big with their superhero films, it is time for FOX to step up their game as well. And one of the many ways they expand their universe is with more spin offs and other movies, such as the third Wolverine movie or X-Men: Apocalypse. In an interview with Collider, Simon Kinberg (who has been in many interviews lately) was asked on the possibility of moving into television just like Marvel Studios did with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and will soon do again with Agent Carter. “We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be, but when you look at S.H.I.E.L.D. to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with Daredevil and other shows on Netflix, it makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV. Because that’s it, every week you come back to the same characters different story, and in comic books every week it’s the same characters, different story. I think what [Fox is] seeing now is with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that doesn’t cost $300 million every time you have to make a huge movie.” Along with making more sequels and going into television, many fans are anxious to see Deadpool given a proper chance on the big screen with his own film, preferably an R-Rated film. When asked on the possibility of his own film, Kinberg said “Yeah, it makes sense to me. Genuinely it’s early phases, early days, but if you’re gonna do a Deadpool movie, I think you’ve gotta do a hard-R, darker movie and he is the perfect character to do it with.” What do you think the best way for FOX to expand their X-Men universe is? Sound off below!

A TV Series would be cool. Make it out of continutity with teh films so we can have Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean, Storm and Beast or someone. Just the core five. Would be pretty cool.

I doubt this will ever happen, but the leaked Deadpool script was great!

There are only two possible outcomes:

1. They will never make a Deadpool movie because of reasons.

2. They will make a horrible Deadpool movie. When it bombs, Fox will blame the character for not being popular enough and the fans for being too negative.

The fact that he is representing the xmen brand and doesn't know that fox only has movie rights, speaks volumes on Laura schudder and that company. They still have no idea what they are doing.

I'm pretty sure you don't have the television rights dumbass, just marketing and film.

There aren't separate television and film rights - they're live action rights. Meaning Disney can use Spidey and X-Men in their animated series - but not in say, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. So, whilst Fox cannot produce their own animated X-Men show anymore - they can make a live acion show.

Why not? They've already CW-ed the shit out of the movies. What they're doing with the X-Men is better suited for television...

TV would be a great place to expand their universe!

X-Factor Investigations would be perfect on TV, it has a gritty noir procedural feel that's very popular and it has a very cool team of X Characters that have a great dynamic.

I've always thought NYX could work too.
With X-23 as a teen Wolverine and other teen characters it could definitely be targeted to a teen demographic while keeping it's mature themes.
