Dark Phoenix Was Supposed To Kill Magneto In X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (2006)

X-Men: The Last Stand storyboards, created by Michael Anthony Jackson, reveal an unused scene involving Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey vaporizing Magneto just as she did with Professor Charles Xavier.

When Bryan Singer ("X-Men: Days of Future Past") left X-Men: The Last Stand to go off and direct Superman Returns, Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour") was had the keys to 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. The film is not well liked by X-Men fans, as several characters are killed off. The most controversial death scene would have to go to James Marsden's Cyclops who is unceremoniously killed off-screen near the beginning of the film. One scene that I thought was handled actually quite well, was the death of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart). Xavier goes to confront Jean at her childhood home. He tries to re-establish the mental blocks he used to suppress her powers, but Jean's alter-ego, The Phoenix, is too strong. She unleashes her powers upon Xaviere by lifting him off his wheelchair and disintegrating him. Well, apparently at one time, The Phoenix was supposed to vaporize Magneto (Ian Mckellen) as well, as seen in Michael Anthony Jackson's storyboards below. Which is much different than the theatrical version, which had Beast (Kelsey Grammer) sneaking up behind Magneto during the final battle at Alcatraz and injecting him with "the cure."

Experience the awesome power of the X-Men's epic, final battle as the mutant revolution is upon them and it is time to take a stand. Join well known mutant heroes and villains and meet a host of all-new warriors - including Angel, Beast, Juggernaut and Colossus in this explosive adventure! After a controversial "cure" is discovered, mutants can hoose to retain their superhuman abilities or give up their unique gifts and become "normal." When peaceful mutant leader Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) clashes with his militant counterpart, Magneto (Ian McKellen), the battle lines are drawn for the war to end all wars. Bursting with non-stop action, spectacular special effects and exclusive special features, X-MEN THE LAST STAND is a force of nature that will blow you away!

X-Men: The Last Stand was directed by Brett Ratner, from a screenplay written by Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. The cast included: Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine, Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe / Storm, Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Anna Paquin as Marie / Rogue, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy / Beast, James Marsden as Scott Summers / Cyclops, Shawn Ashmore as Bobby Drake / Iceman, and Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde. The film earned $459 million at the world wide box office, against a budget of $210 million.

Definitely feels like an alternate reality. I think DOFP (going back into the past to fix things), might have been planned from the beginning.

If that happened........would've been a complete reboot and sorted the continuity out from scratch.

So Magneto was going to destroy the bridge and kill everyone on it instead of just moving it like he does in the actual film, probably explains why he was killed in the storyboards. It also looks like the X-MEN would try and take on Jean after she kills Magneto, I guess the target Magneto was after in these storyboards was a politician instead of Leech.

And also apparently Angel was supposed to actually do shit in the movie.

The conclusion at the white house shown in this, instead of wherever they were in X3, would've made it a much better conclusion, imo.
Also, Angel having a more significant role would have been preferred.

Looking back at X1 & X2, Singer clearly would've made a better X3 film.

Well, thank you cherry! Even though I still believe that my skin was awful in this movie. And so were my eyes. I looked so ugly in X3... [frick] Brett Ratner

Wow... so as bad as X3 was, it could have been a whole lot worse.

Lol, at first I was like, "where the heck did that pyramid come from?"

Yes, that is the the top of the Washington Monument seeing how they are in DC instead of San Francisco in these storyboards.

The only good thing about X3 was casting Ellen Page as Kitty.
Great casting.

X-Men: The Last Stand was on FX today. I watched it and I cried. Not because Cyclops died. Not because Prof. X died. Because I couldn't find the remote.

I loved both Kelsey, Ellen and Ben castings.

Its a shame Ratner did nothing memorable with such an awesome cast of actors and characters.

The movie didnt even have a 2 hours running time, Cheap ass Ratner!

The Phoenix Saga on its own should've been a big trilogy, 'Lord Of The Rings' Trilogy Style!!!.... Magneto & Storm wasn't up in the air a lot at all. Archangel wasn't in it much either :( ... And then they started killing killing killing.... i really really do not like it at all... They should've brought back Nightcrawler and Lady Deathstrike (which they shouldn't have killed, in the first bloody place, into X3 cos they were both pretty amazing in X2... but oh well, it's all done & dusted now...
They did ok with First Class. Let's see how DOFP gonna be. And then Apocalypse. ....

It´s the best FoX-Men movie at the box office with 459M$ Worldwide

The FoXverine couldn´t get that amount

The fight with Phoenix should be at The White House like in the storyboards

The traitor Bryan Singer left to direct Superman Returns
