It has been confirmed that Bryan Singer will return to direct X-Men: Apocalypse, the 2016 follow-up (May 27th to be precise) to the hugely successful X-Men: Days of Future Past. While his involvement was expected, there was some doubt due to some serious allegations which were made about the filmmaker. Regardless, the deal has now closed according to Deadline and a variety of other reliable sites. Simon Kinberg will be back to write the movie, based on a story from Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. The site also have the first plot details, and the synopsis of sorts reads as follows: "Apocalypse takes place a decade after Days of Future Past and is a seamless next step in the story. The altering of time has unleashed a new and uniquely powerful enemy. Charles (James McAvoy), Erik/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Hank/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) are joined by young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet – an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history."
There's already speculation that we'll see Channing Tatum's Gambit introduced in this movie, while the introduction of some familiar faces like Cyclops and Jean Grey is sure to be welcomed by fans. The fact that they're making the ramifications of the altered timeline the reason for Apocalypse's emergence is very interesting too. How do you guys feel about this news?
