Everything ended up looking really cool.
I just still can't get into this young Beast.
Maybe it's the color. They went too light blue and he looks weird.

Fantastic movie. The 3 first X men movies are no longer canon right? Or at least X 2 and X3.

Blink's final scene was awesome, if she had a little more imagination she could have taken them all out by herself. Visually it looked awesome.

Looking at that QS scene, there is a lot of metal material in that room. Magneto still could have taken them out.

AztecRaingod Yeah, I agree. That whole bit was stupid. Magneto can lift submarines out of the water, use train tracks to infuse metal into the Sentinels, and lift an entire stadium but he couldn't stop two freakin' bullets. It was much better when it was rumored he killed JFK.

FC and DOFP are the only films in continuity right now.

I'd say X-Men 1 is still canon in some sense, Rogue still has her white streak so it means that Magneto still went through with his plan to turn everyone into mutants.
GeekyCheekyChic
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/28/2014, 6:34 AM
I say X1,2,3 both Wolverine's are gone. There are nitpicks that we can use to determine what 'survived' the retconn but ultimately its going to be
First Class
DOFP
Apocalypse
Gambit
X-Force

And for people with taste: X1,X2,First Class,DOFP are the only movies that matter at the moment.
BANEofExistence
BANEofExistence - 5/28/2014, 6:53 AM
The only def movie still canon is First Class and DOFP. X2, X3, The Wolverine are definetly wiped away. X-Men 1 and origins could still be canon, but I'm sure Apocalypse (2016) will def determine if anything even is or if this is a COMPLETE reboot (Im hoping because if X1 is canon then that takes away any sense of "Danger" from Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Xavier etc since we would know there fates in X1)

Shit movie with shit effects. The phoned in Dues ex Machina of why Xavier can walk, Hank looks human and this entire movie was completely weak. Magneto became a 2d psychotic "thanks for breaking me out of jail to help save the world, but I'll kill and betray everyone anyway lol" horseshit.

How I think the new continuity would be:

X-Men: First Class
X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men: Apocalypse
X-Men (modified)
X2 (modified)

The Wolverine never happens, shame because of how great it was. Origins has been retconned (thank God!) as has Last Stand. (better than people say, but still not really worth saving)

Personally I'd like to just think that X2 and Wolverine still happen...I mean, I am happy that Origins is gone, and tbh I don't mind that X1 and X3 are gone now too...they aren't that great. But X2 and Wolverine were excellent, I wish they could've found a way to keep them. Idk it just bugs me that they totally erased two nigh-masterpieces from canon.

Now that Stryker has bone claw past Wolverine, I hope to see a REAL Weapon X Wolverine movie. Bring back Schrieber and get Mangold to helm, would be an instant classic with the right people on board.

And just for the record, I think DOFP is the best CBM I have seen so far. I once said that nothing Marvel would ever top The Dark Knight, well now I'm going to retcon that out of my continuity. I'm primarily an X-Fanboy, and yes while I've liked most of the films I didn't feel any of them were good enough to be called the BEST. That has changed now...

DOFP was a great X-Men movie....for people who have never read the comic books nor watched any of the animated series. It's an X-Men movie for the general audience who's only exposure to X-Men has been the films.

For me, 14 years and 7 movies later and it still feels like they still haven't even scratched the surface of what they could do with this franchise and with these characters. It's the wasted potential that continues to frustrate me. So many characters being wasted in favor of Wolverine, Mystique, Magneto and Professor X.

The change is not what bothers me, it's the fact that nothing really lines up in these movies. There are so many continuity problems, I just have to shut my brain off when watching it. How else would you explain no mention of Sentinels in the original movies? The only thing that would make things make sense is if somehow Apocalypse played a part in DOFP and that he too traveled back in time to advise Bolivar Trask or maybe Apocalypse is Bolivar Trask in disguise and told him to make Sentinels.
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 5/28/2014, 10:57 AM
@OpticBlast
That's not true entirely about the movie only being good for people who never read comics or watch cartoons. I am a huge X-fan, comics, cartoons, movies, even games...I view the movies as an alternate X-Men universe, because in reality that's all CBMs are. Alternate universe versions of comics. That's why I'm comfortable with most source changes.

I do agree that they have ignored the potential of certain characters, Cyclops mainly, Marsden is perfect guy for the role but it feels like he's barely even in the movies. Gambit, again Kitsch was actually pretty good but he's underused and didn't even need to be there. Ryan Reynolds was the perfect mouthy jerk Deadpool at the beginning, then they made him into some stupid shit. They have a lot of great characters meshed with perfect actors, but aren't written well.

I still love the X-Men series, just wanted to say I agree in a certain respect. But you're wrong about the films only being good for general audiences.
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 5/28/2014, 10:59 AM
IMHO Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto and Cyclops should be the core of the X-Men franchise. They have got it 3/4 I'd say that's good, but could better.
Opticblast
Opticblast - 5/28/2014, 2:43 PM
I too view it as an alternate version of the X-Men which is fine. The movie was really good. The acting, the story, everything was excellent. But what really bothers me, again, is the wasted potential of the action, the scope of the things being put on screen. This was supposed to be Fox's 2nd most expensive movie behind Avatar? Where did the money go? It's the same with X3 The Last Stand. Hugely expensive movie, but it just wasn't on the screen.

This will most likely be the only time we get to see the Sentinels in live action form (unless there's a reboot) and all we got was Beast and Wolverine attempting to fight a single Sentinel with his bone claws (huh?) and future Sentinels that killed everyone with very little action. This means we'll most likely never get the satisfaction of seeing the X-Men as a team battle and defeat the Sentinels. We'll never see Cyclops blasting a Sentinel, Wolverine slashing a Sentinel (with adamantium claws this time), Storm flying in the air taking on multiple Sentinels, Colossus smashing Sentinels, etc. I'm just not sure Bryan Singer has it in him to give us any kind of huge action sequences with crowd-pleasing moments similar to what we got with The Avengers.

I'm sick of having to watch the old animated X-Men series to see things that after 7 movies, we're still no closer to seeing on screen. Feige and Whedon would have gotten it right on the first (or second) try. Look how long it took to get iced-up, ice-sleddin' Iceman? We only got a few seconds of that. They couldn't even give us one scene with future Wolverine fighitng a Sentinel. It's things like that, that really bother me.
