X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Voted the Summer's Most Anticipated Movie

It looks like the lack of a full trailer might be working in X-Men: Days of Future Past's favor as its been voted the summer's most anticipated movie in a poll conducted by Rotten Tomatoes. The list was ranked by Rotten Tomatoes' "want to see" percentage and the number of votes each film received. The general audience seems to still be enamored with CBMs, which should be good news for us, as all three of Marvel's superhero properties make the top five as Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finishes 2nd while this summer's Marvel Studios release, Guardians of the Galaxy finished a distant 5th. Other action films, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Godzilla also make the list. Check out the full list below:

1) X-Men: Days of Future Past

The stars of the X-Men trilogy (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman) share the screen with the folks from X-Men: First Class (Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy). Plus Brian Singer is directing, so the anticipation for this probably couldn't get much higher.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.

2) The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Look out! Here comes Andrew Garfield in his second outing as everyone's favorite web-slinger. This time out, ol' webhead faces down Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) and the Rhino (Paul Giamatti).

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014.

3) How to Train Your Dragon 2

Hiccup and Toothless are back to fly the often less-than-friendly skies in what's undoubtedly the most successful Viking franchise in Hollywood history.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 hits theaters June 13, 2014.

4) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Andy Serkis is back as Caesar, and this time he's joined by Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters July 11, 2014.

5) Guardians of the Galaxy

Unlike the Avengers and the X-Men, this posse of Marvel characters is short on a-list superheroes, but with a cast that includes Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Saldana, it's got enough star power to excite the comics crowd.

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.

6) Godzilla

)

Nothing can kill Godzilla -- not an oxygen destroyer, not King Kong, not even Roland Emmerich. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston try to avoid getting squashed this time.

Godzilla hits theaters May 16, 2014.

7) 22 Jump Street

Given the breezy comic chemistry between Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street, it's no surprise that audiences are looking forward to more.

22 Jump Street hits theaters June 13, 2014.

8) Neighbors

Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne star in this wacky comedy about a war between frat boys and a young couple with a newborn baby.

Neighbors hits theaters May 9, 2014.

9) Transformers: Age of Extinction

Look up "critic-proof" in the dictionary and you'll find the Transformers franchise -- though with Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, and the dinobots on board, perhaps a sense of cautious optimism is warranted.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters June 27, 2014.

10) Hercules: The Thracian Wars

Critically and commercially, The Legend of Hercules laid a pterodactyl-sized egg earlier this year, but hope springs eternal for RT users that a second cinematic go-around in 2014 -- this time with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the legendary strongman -- will be mightier.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars hits theaters July 25, 2014.

Ok, not bashing or anything but who voted X-men over Cap, Guardians, Godzilla, Dragon, or even Transformers and Spider-man?

And why isn't cap on this list?

Oh does Cap come out in the summer?

I could see if Spider-man or Transformers won. Barely anyone knows Guardians so yeah. But X-men? I'm trying to wrap my brain around this... lol.

The only movies I plan on seeing in the theater this year are Cap 2, X-Men, and probably Dumb and Dumber To. I'll probably get dragged into seeing 22 Jump Street, but I won't be happy about it.

If the rumor of the new trailer coming out on Mar 24th is true,DOFP will kick off the main push of its marketing blitz
exactly 2 months out from its release date. Don't forget the film is getting massive free advertising when both The Hunger Games and The Hobbit, top lined by major DOFP character actors, get released on home video. The new trailer will play in front of Noah, then get played in front of The Winter Soldier. There will be much awareness for the film by May.

Are the vote numbers for Transformers wrong? Based on the number of votes it should be number 2 on the list. Perhaps I am just not seeing things right after a long day.

I'm sorry, but I'm calling it bollocks. Flixster is as much reliable as IMDB when it comes to this sort of thing. The evidence is there for anyone willing to see, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Transformers 4 are the most anticipated blockbusters this year. Period.

However tells you different is simply wrong. And I don't mean no harm or a cheap shot at X-Men fans, I am one myself, but there is simply no way in hell that DoFP is "Summer's most anticipated movie". It seems to me that Fox is just "branching out" with their marketing strategy, if you know what I mean.

I'm more excited for The Flash than any of these movies. Franchise fatigue is taking its toll on me.

Cap is apparently really good though!

Yeah, okay...BULLSHIT. Actually WALK DOWN THE STREET and ask people, "what summer movie are you most excited for?" I guarantee, GUARANTEE they won't know of any movie coming out this summer. Until the do that, don't tell me about the "general audience."

I am really having a hard time getting interested in Godzilla. II love the old classics, but ever since the last big budget movie I have lost interest.

For me my list of must sees are

Amazing Spider-Man 2
GOTG
Hercules
22 Jump Street
Neighbors
X-Men (love X-Men but have been so disappointed by the franchise it is now out of morbid curiosity i continue to see these)
Apes

FoneBone - 3/11/2014, 11:02 PM
The REAL GENERAL AUDIENCE dont know shit about any of these movies, EXCEPT for Transformers. Can't stand Rotten Tomatoes. And DON'T ANY OF YOU DARE TO START A MARVEL VS. DC FIGHT AND BRING UP RT SCORES, because that seems to be the trendy thing here lately, and it's gotten annoying, I don't know why I'm the only person to speak up on this.
