Speaking with Coming Soon while promoting Heleno, actor Rodrigo Santoro discusses his returning to the role of King Xerxes in Warner Bros.' 300: Rise Of An Empire, a follow-up to Zack Snyder's 2007 Frank Miller adaptation. He comments on his preparation for his performance, as well as working with green screen and how FX will help enhance aspects of the character. He also talks about how the film will be connected to the original 300, confirming that some of it will be set before the first film and some after, but that it will mostly take place during the events of the prior movie.

"I had to shave, I had to work out again, I had to go back to Xerxes. It's the same character," Santoro says. "There's little new things - a little before, a little after - but most of the movie, it's during… kind of the same time where the first movie takes place. There's a lot going on. It's hard, the green screen, it's a different way of working. It's really challenging to work that way and the character wears a lot and Xerxes is a giant. He's almost not human, which is a poetic license. It comes from a graphic novel so it's not based in real history, so that character is very very tall and his voice is like thunder and that's the description of this character. So there's a couple special FX and tricks that have to be done to accomplish that figure so I do scenes by myself. It's interesting, it's a lot of work."

300: Rise Of An Empire also stars Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton. The film is set to hit theaters August 2nd, 2013.

@Godzillafart

300 was a badass film.

i'm sorry, but you're a moron if you expected any sort of substance going in. an even bigger moron if you expected it to be faithful to the history books. it's supposed to be a big dumb testosterone-filled action movie, and it was certainly a lot more entertaining than any of the transformers films.

but this prequel or whatever.... i'm not sure if i care about this.

@godzillafart: there is substances and drama and tough choices in that movie that the characters have to deal with. So i dunno if we saw the same movie or not. Then again you're a hater especially Zack's, so why am i'm arguing it with you?

300 was a good flick, but there's no need or want for this. Overkill for a buck.
