BOX OFFICE: Matt Damon's JASON BOURNE On Pace To Exceed Expectations With $61 Million+ Domestic Debut

It's only Saturday, but it looks like Matt Damon's glorious return as Jason Bourne is shaping up to be a major winner at the worldwide box office! Come take a look at the weekend numbers now!

Early tracking suggested Universal PicturesJason Bourne would have a modest opening, landing somewhere between $50-55 million domestic, but the actual weekend numbers are proving to be just a tad bit higher.

The latest installment in the long-running spy franchise is now on pace to open at around $61 million domestic and could quite possibly take in more when all is said and done. The sudden box office uptick can likely be attributed to a positive word-of-mouth as well as to the return of franchise star Matt Damon, who's back after nearly a decade. Internationally, the Paul Greengrass-directed action sequel is doing better than any of the previous installments and should collect over $49 million by the end of the weekend, bringing its worldwide sum to over $110 million, which is definitely not a bad start for a film that reportedly had a production budget of approximately $120 million.

With a $61 million domestic opening, Jason Bourne will become the second biggest opener in the entire franchise (and second biggest opener of Damon's career), only trailing The Bourne Ultimatum, which opened to $69.3 million back in 2007. The sequel also managed to outperform the opening weekend numbers of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which brought in over $55.5 million domestic during the same weekend last summer, although that film received a major boost from foreign markets where it managed to earn more than 71% of its final $682.3 million worldwide sum.

Elsewhere, the well-received Mila Kunis-led comedy Bad Moms had a solid opening, taking in between $27-30 million domestic. Paramount PicturesStar Trek Beyond is expected to finish third with a $24 million weekend, bringing its domestic total to over $104 million.

The clock is now officially on for Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad, which is expected to rake in over $125 million by the end of next weekend.

It looks like it is possible if it keeps up bring in lots of money Matt will be playing Jason Bourne again. Hopefully if he does make a sequel Jeremy Renner will join that one too. Seeing them working together would be nice.

@BlackIceJoe - Wasn't the Damon-Renner combination the original plan for this film?

I'm just not a Jason Bourne fan. I saw the first and last additions by Damon and Bourne Legacy.

I just don't get the hype.
