Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Drops Out Of Ryan Reynold's HIGHLANDER Remake

Not a lot is known about Summit Entertainment's planned remake of the original 1986 Highlander film except that Ryan Reynolds will be portraying Connor MacLeod and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would be directing. But according to today's report from Deadline Juan Carlos has exited the project.

"I’m told that his exit is amicable, and that after a year of working on the project, he and Summit could not get past the fact they had differing views of the film, and finally agreed to disagree. Fresnadillo left a remake of The Crow to join Highlander. It’s unclear at the moment whether that is an option, but come Monday, he will be looking for another movie, and Summit will be looking for another Highlander helmer." - Deadline

1986's Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown, spanned a four sequels, animated series, animated film, and even a live-action television series, which starred Adrian Paul. In the original film, Lambert played Connor MacLeod, an immortal from the Scottish Highlands, that was born in the 16th century.

Perhaps one of the most unintentionally funny things about the film is that Sean Connery plays Connor MacLeod's mentor. A man that would help train the Highlander and is vital to providing the audience with the background to the rules of the Immortals. Now that isn't the funny part, what is funny is that Sean Connery is playing a character named, Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez. Connery is playing a character that is born in Egypt and does nothing to hide his natural Scottish accent. Nearly as funny as his portrayal of a Russian submarine captain (Marko Ramius) in The Hunt for Red October.

I think you missed the funny part. What's funny is that the Scottish highlander is played by a frenchman (Lambert) while Connery (the real Scotsman) is playing a Spaniard who's character was born in Egypt.

What's even funnier is the thought that Reynolds would be a highlander. It seems there are more and more films that do more and more to keep me away. Thank goodness for the Hobbit.

I hate Ryan R, he is not a action hero sorry.. He will ruin this film no matter who directs it.

So get rid of Ryan R then i wont mind a Remake so much.

I have nothing but respect for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo maintaining his integrity and not folding to corporate pushing. Let the creatives do their job and the execs do theirs. But at the same time walking away from two big movies in a row could be dangerous to his career.
Balance it out carefully.

Ryan Reynolds still manages to find work while 7.9% of the American population is jobless.

Sad

this movie deserves a good remake not a crappy one. Who will ever ever ever believe that RR is a scotsman from hundreds of years ago? fail. Get an actual scotsman...

Anyone else want to see new movies like a Gundam movie, or actual Dragonball Z, or Dead Space, or even Devil May Cry?

@XxComablackxX1937 Ryan Reynolds did a great job in Safe House IMO.

What the shit?! Ryan effing Reynolds in a Highlander movie? Man people don't care about casting anymore or when remaking a classic. Definitely will not be seeing this in theaters at all.

@geekycomicgirl

Bitch much?

It's not that you showed it to him, is that after seeing his reaction you would come to a comic book movie site and write about it, then show it. But then again, if most of the comments are anything to go by, most of the users on this site aren't really fans. They're more casual people with nothing to do at work.,

He's an idea though: Don't remake a classic action sci-fi movie that myself and many, many others hold so dear. It's bad enough we have been given "Highlander 2: The Quickening", "Highlander 3: So unmemorable I can't remember the subtitle and I don't give enough of a shit to look it up.", that stupid ass cartoon and those two shows, the awful video games, "Highlander: Endgame" and..."Highlander: The Source"...*shudder*. Haven't we hardcore fans suffered enough? At least starting using some lube.

Pogokitty45 - 11/30/2012, 9:28 PM
The directors cut of highlander 2 and endgame were actually pretty decent, but I would not watch any highlander move with RR in it. Isnt it enough that he ruined GL?

Now if only Ryan Reynolds would move on.

I'm still trying to imagine Ryan Reynolds using a Scottish accent.......damn......just........damn. Of all of the films that Ryan Reynolds needs to make, this is NOT one of them. There can be only one and that one is not Ryan Reynolds.
