At last night's
Empire Awards, Spielberg confirmed in his speech, accepting the Legend of Our Lifetime award, that the fifth
Indiana Jones film would begin filming in April 2019 in the UK.
It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Spielberg would shoot Indiana Jones 5 before moving on to his West Side Story remake.
We still don't know all that much about the movie but; late last year, Harrison Ford teased that he'll be returning to the franchise and that the film will focus on an older Indy. Here's the quote:
I'm looking forward to working with Steven again and to revisiting the character later in life. It's interesting to see it in a different light. It will be fun and a good thing to do.
What do you think about the Spielberg-directed Indiana Jones sequel so far? Are you excited to see Ford return to the role?
In addition to the Indiana Jones start date, Spielberg’s speech also included praise for the Time’s Up movement sweeping through the film industry. Check out the full acceptance speech below:
