According to Deadline, Lakeshore Entertainment has acquired the rights to adapt the Image Comics graphic novel The Sword, which was written by brothers Jonathan and Joshua Luna, to the big screen. The producers hope to launch a new female-led franchise similar to their Underworld series. Divided into four volumes, the first installment is expected to go into production this year. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing for Lakeshore. The story "follows a young paraplegic who leads an ordinary existence until her family is brutally murdered by a mysterious trio. Escaping from the assassins, she discovers a sword that restores her ability to walk and grants her physical powers. With her new weapon, she sets out on a journey of brutal retribution." Stay tuned to CBM for more news on this project as we have it.
