FANTASY ISLAND Star Maggie Q On Whether She Would Return To The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Franchise - EXCLUSIVE

Maggie Q made a huge impact in Mission: Impossible III, but her commitments to The CW's Nikita meant that she was unable to return for the sequels. Now, though, with Christopher McQuarrie bringing back some familiar faces for his Mission: Impossible - Fallout sequels, many fans would love to see the actress finally make her return as Zhen Lei.

Well, when we spoke to Maggie Q to discuss her new movie Blumhouse's Fantasy Island, we asked if she has any interest in once again fighting alongside the Impossible Mission Force!

"You know, it's funny because they asked me to come back after Mission: Impossible III, but I was contracted on television so I was so happy and touched, but it was not something I was able to do legally," she explained. "I couldn't leave my show for it which was really sad. People asked me at the time, 'When are you coming back?' and I said, 'I can't!' They asked and I couldn't do it. I don't see why it couldn't now be a possibility in the future, but we shall see..."

It sounds like this is something Maggie Q is definitely keen on making a reality, but it depends on whether there's room for Lei in the story that McQuarrie plans on telling across his next two films.

The last time we saw the character, she was assisting Ethan Hunt in his mission to rescue his protege, Lindsey Farris, together with Declan and Luther. Lei made it to the end of Mission: Impossible III, and got to meet Ethan Hunt's wife Julia for the first time alongside her fellow IMF agents.

The forthcoming Paramount streaming network could do worse than create a spinoff show and include Maggie Q, Jonathon Rhys Meyers, Ving Rhames, Paula Patton, have Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg in the first episode to launch it. Chris McQuarrie directs first episode and executive produces. HBOMax are doing a similar thing and letting Denis Villeneuve make the show Dune : the Sisterhood to go along with his film.

Her comments don't say much, so I'm still hoping she returns as a Syndicate/Apostle member in one or both of the upcoming M:I movies

I'd rather have Paula Patton back. Outside of Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg, the other people on the MI team in movies 2 and 3 are a bit forgettable.
