Press Release: JAMES BOND Tribute To Be Held At The 85th Academy Awards

While we wait to hear whether or not Skyfall will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, it has been announced that a special celebration of the 50 year old franchise will be held at the Academy Awards this year.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The 85th Academy Awards® will include a tribute to the James Bond movie franchise, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, the telecast's producers announced today.

"We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "Starting with 'Dr. No' back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon."

The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

I hope Skyfall gets a couple of nominations, at the very least Judi Dench deserves a Supporting Actress nod, and Adele will probably win the Best Original Song award (or whatever it's called), and Roger Deakins at least deserves a nomination for his cinematography too.

oookay.. anything to go up in the ratings. its not like bond movies have been oscar-winners. not saying that the character doesn't deserve a tribute, but not in the oscars.

Just goes to show that reputation means everything to the Oscars. Oscars didn't give shit about James Bond until it was made by an Oscar winning Director. If the Batman trilogy were exact same films but directed by an Oscar winning director then all three of them would have been nominated as well.

Not to mention but historical significance is very influential to the Academy as well. If Tolkein hadn't written Lotr during WW2, they never would have been even nominated. And if HP or Batman were wrote during the Great Depression, they would have a gazillion Oscars as well.

Moral of the story, the Oscars are stupid.
