SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Director Jon Watts Sets Next Project With George Clooney & Brad Pitt To Star

It looks like Jon Watts has found his Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up and it may be one of the hottest Hollywood projects in recent memory as both George Clooney and Brad Pitt are expected to star.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that a massive bidding war has emerged for Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts' next project, which is expected to star 2x Academy Award-winners and former Ocean's Eleven co-stars George Clooney (Michael ClaytonUp in the Air) and Brad Pitt (Fight Club; Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood) in the lead roles.

Watts is slated to write, direct and produce the film, with Clooney and Pitt starring and co-producing with their respective production houses, Smokehouse Pictures and Plan B Entertainment. Both are expected to earn paydays north of $20 million.

As for where it may land, that remains up in the air for now, but the entirety of Hollywood is currently fighting it out, and THR reports that Sony, Lionsgate, Apple, and Netflix are among the frontrunners to land the star-studded package, while Amazon, Annapurna, Universal, MGM, and Warner Bros. are also heavily interested.

Plot details are being held under wraps, but the film is said to be a thriller with the story following two lone wolf fixers who find themselves assigned to the same job.

This untitled project will be Watts' first original film since 2015's Cop Car, having then quickly become a favorite of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios with his work on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and this December's Spider-Man: No Way Home. He's already been tapped to helm Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four, which is currently in the earliest stages of development, but based on the production timeline, it seems quite possible he could tackle the Clooney/Pitt-starrer before getting to work on introducing Marvel's First Family.

I really like Cop Car, hope it’s more in that vein.

@Cbmfilmjunkie - I couldn't stand the darn kids. The performances were good, but I just disliked them very much as characters. The direction was good though, and Kevin Bacon, well... enough said.

@MosquitoFarmer - Oh ya I feel that.

I think that was the point though? They were so unlikeable, but Kevin Bacon’s character was even more unlikeable which made it so appealing.

At Disney Investor Day, Feige specifically mentioned the upcoming FF movie after saying GOTG would be released May 2023. If the movie was far off, it would make no sense to make such statement. If Watts is that busy, let’s find a new director.

@Liverpool4life - Lets keep in mind just cause they announced FF after GOTG doesnt mean its gonna be the next film after GOTG. for all we know they always intended for another MCU film to release right after GOTG, Maybe it is Deadpool that will be the next film, after all Ryan did teased they may start filming next year which would coincide with a 2023 release

@Liverpool4life - my guess is FF will be released july 2023 (and Blade in october), so maybe Watts start working on this right after FF (early 2023?)

You wanna talk about success? Jon Watts has it.

Two hit Spider-Men films, with another one in December. Fantastic Four, and now this?

So, either F4 is much further off than we thought, he's sure he can knock this one out pretty quick or he's bowing out of F4, which shouldn't be that big of a deal if it happened.

I wish this film the best of success and immediate sequels, one after the other.

FF can always get a new director.

If this was a new Ocean's entry I wouldn't have minded it too. I don't really like the Spider-Man movies, but I do think Watts can capture family and friend dynamics really well (also the reason why I think he fits FF)

The guy just did 3 Marvel Movies. Can't blame him for wanting to do something else. Maybe he will drop out of FF and someone else will pick up the project.

Fantastic Four will be the last "phase 4" movie.
A phase nowaday lasts 3 years.
Black Widow and Shang-Chi were the first two movies of phase 4 in 2021.
2023 will be the last year of phase 4 and it will culminate with a F4 movie.

Personally i think Watts won't direct the next Spiderman films and is done with his Marvel contracts after F4 as things stsnd now.

Jon Watts has a LOT of naked pictures of some VERY important people (and he's also a damn good director)
