BOX OFFICE: Pixar Back On Top As FINDING DORY Swims Straight To #1 With Record Breaking Opening Weekend

2016's next big superhero movie is Suicide Squad, but there are still quite a few other blockbusters to be excited about over the next six weeks or so before that DC Comics adaptation is released. One of those is Finding Dory, and after a massive $55 million yesterday, the Pixar sequel now looks set to have a record breaking opening weekend of $139 million. That means it will have the biggest debut of all-time for an animated movie (until Toy Story 4 comes along), topping Shrek the Third's $121.6 million.

The movie has broken a number of records this weekend, and looks set to dominate for the next couple of weeks. Pixar has had mixed success with sequels in the past, and with 2016 proving to be a very hit or miss year for movies at the box office, they have to be relieved that this one has done so well. Elsewhere, future Black Adam Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson continues to prove himself a major box office draw after Central Intelligence debuted with what looks to be a solid $35 million debut.

Not going to see it. Didn't like the first. But wow Disney really might end up with all five of the top five movies of the year.

Pixar's last film, Good Dinosaur, was their first financial failure.

Good thing this was right around the corner.

@Quicker - last movie I cried in was Inside Out, also a Pixar film. These people just make great emotion filled movies (most of the time).

@Quicker - as much as I liked this movie, I didn't find it to be nearly as emotional as some of pixar's other efforts. Inside out, for instance, really got the water works going.

Yeah don't underestimate all the 20 year olds that are gonna see this one because they saw Finding Nemo when they were like 7.

What took so long to beat Shrek 3?
