Loads Of New Details On The Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series!

Some of the minds behind the show talk about the tone of the show, whether it'll begin with an origin story, the characters we can expect to see and a lot more...

Quotes from the LA Times' Hero Complex...

On The Tone Of The Series:

"At this point, we can safely say that the tone of "Ultimate Spider-Man," the show, will be unlike any iteration of the property that has existed before. We’ve got a specific mandate to make this show, in a word, unique. So that’s what we’re doing...and we’re doing it in ways you’d never imagine. We’re going places that no Spider-Man cartoon — or probably any superhero cartoon — has ever gone before. For all of us at Man of Action, that’s a lot of what makes this exciting for us."

On Whether The Show Will Start With An Origin Story:

"Between the comics, the films, the TV shows, the video games and more, everyone pretty much knows Spider-Man’s origin by now, so it’s not exactly a priority to start at square one. It’s a fundamental aspect of the character and it will be addressed, but the way in which it’s addressed within the show is just one of many surprises that we’ve got in store."

On What We Can Expect To See In The Show:

"If we mentioned *anything* right now, we’d be giving away a surprise, not to mention violating all kinds of confidentiality agreements! Needless to say, we’re psyched about the overall approach we’re taking and the fact that we’re going to do something different from anything that’s been done before. No one will be able to see this coming, which is a big part of what Man of Action brings to the table to begin with: unpredictability."

On The Villains And Characters We Can Expect To See:

"Spider-Man has one of the coolest rogues galleries ever, so it’s difficult to come up with any of them that you could consider to be "underappreciated." Over 50 years of Spider-Man comics means that all of the classic villains have had great stories told about them because they’re compelling characters. But where the show is concerned, there are definitely some big surprises in store, specifically in terms of the villains that Spidey will go up against. And remember, we’ve got the entirety of the Marvel Universe to work with in this show. Should be a fun ride for everyone."

The only question that I would like an answer to is whether Venom will make an appearance or not.

Venom was always the character I looked forward to watching on the old 90's Spiderman cartoon. I didn't get to see him in many episodes, which sucked.

I hope he appears in this. I'll give it a shot regardless though.

I hope the direction they take isnt strictly Ultimate Spider-man. I want the tone to be more adult and graphic with blood and the whole 9 yards.

It might be good, but no animated series has been able to compare with the brilliant Spider-Man one that I grew up with in the 90's. (I too loved Venom's appearences Vermillion!) I'm not sure why it is, but I watched the first episode of that new Avengers series recently and just cant be bothered to catch up (even though it was surprising good) but if I see an old episode of that Spidey series on TV, I happily rewatch it! :P Here's hoping this is just as great.

deadpool72: Thanks bud! I've been meaning to check that out for a while now. I dont think it's out here on DVD/blu-ray though is it?

I have to disagree @weneedrevelation
I really enjoyed spectacular spider-man, i thought each piece of it really captured the essence of spider-man and changed little bits but not enough to offend fans

The spectacular spiderman show was perfect,It delivered flawlessly.I grew up watching the 90s one & it was ok,it wasn't the best.It wasnt something that had me on the edge of my seat & made me want to watch. It wasnt like the spectacular spiderman show.ALOT of ppl who either grew up watching spiderman in all walks of life,or even those who just watched the 90s one, thought that spectacular spiderman was a billion times better then both the 90s & that spiderman unlimited crap. They also didnt want it canceled, myself included. And I can honestly say the last ep of season 2 on the s.s where Norman completely screwed us mentally, shocked the hell outta me.The 90s show never did that.

Why is everyone hung up on the fact it has "Ultimate" in the title??.. its just a title geez ppl, they already used Amazing and Spectacular (which was freaking awesome!).. surprised it took this long to use Ultimate in the title.. i guess the next one will be Sensational.

Anyway did you guy read that they are using the whole Marvel U.. that sound so much like a hint at an Avengers crossover.

This show is sounding promising. I just hope that they don't do the two things in Ultimate Spidey that I really don't like: the "Hulk Goblin" version of the Green Goblin and Peter acting like a drama queen.

The idea that these guys can use the whole Marvel universe means that we should definitely see some interesting villains and guest stars. I've really enjoyed how they use Kitty Pryde in the Ultimate Spidey comics, and hope that we see some of that, as well as Peter hanging around with Johnny Storm. This show could be a lot of fun!

@Paulley it's because of what comes with the name. Spectacular was simply a name to diffrentiate from previous shows like Sensational would be, but ULTIMATE indicates it being set in the ULTIMATE Marvel Universe (obviously). And many people dislike elements of the Ultimate Marvel U.

That Ultimate title also rules out the Avengers crossover you mentioned, seeing as EMH isn't set in the Ultimate Universe. Perhaps we'll see the Ultimates at some point, but there won't be a crossover with the Avengers cartoon.

big shoes to fill, spectacular spider-man was epic
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 11/5/2010, 6:39 AM
Paulley: I hope you're right about an Avengers crossover. That would be freakin' sweet!

BUT.... AskaniSon is right- EMH is set a lot more in the classic universe, so it would be harder to pull that off. Of course, they're both cartoon series, so the shows' creators could probably find a way to make it work if they wanted to.
Shaman
Shaman - 11/5/2010, 6:47 AM
AskaniSon- Actually nowhere will you ever find info on this show being the EXACT adaptation of Spider-man from the ultimate universe. Which means that although they are using the ultimate title, and surely some inspiration from the ultimate books, it is NOT limited to merely the UltimateU. Them saying that they have access to the ENTIRE MarvelU includes the 616verse just as much as the Ultiverse. That EMH crossover might not be as far off as we think. I just wish the animation of USM will be better than EMH's blocky style.
