THE SPONGEBOG MOVIE And Mark Wahlberg's INFINITE Get New Release Dates After COVID-19 Delays

The 2020 release calendar just changed again as Paramount Pictures has delayed both The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run and Infinite. We also have a release date for that Bob's Burgers film...

More changes have been made to the summer blockbuster season as Paramount Pictures has delayed upcoming sci-fi action movie Infinite from August 7th, 2020 to Memorial Day weekend 2021 (May 28th).

Starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor, director Antoine Fuqua and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's adaptation of the D. Eric Maikranz novel The Reincarnationist Papers has been kept relatively secret thus far, though a teaser was supposed to be shown during SXSW and footage was expected to premiere at CinemaCon.

Unfortunately, both of those events were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In more release date news, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has been hit by a very slight delay as it's moved from July 31st, 2020, to August 7th, 2020. Yes, it's still coming out this year, so unless something drastic happens between now and then, that's not too bad.

It also has little competition that weekend and will only compete with 20th Century's The Empty Man, a thriller from director David Prior. The summer blockbuster season is essentially M.I.A. at this point, but Paramount could cash in if The SpongeBob Movie arrives in August.

Oh, and in related animated news, Deadline has confirmed that the highly anticipated Bob's Burgers movie has now been dated for April 9th, 2021.

Which of these movies are you guys most excited to watch in theaters?

Spongebob already moved once due to the corona virus, if I'm not mistaken. And it seems very unlikely that theatres will open up again in August, so its likely to reshuffle its release date a third time. Honestly, if this shit doesn't go to plan, Marvel may have to push up all their releases one more time in order to be clear of this. So, that would mean no Black Widow until February.

Really not understanding the praise for that Spongebob film:

-Massive change to the iconic animation style for seemingly no reason

-Recycled plot from Gary Come Home

-The whole film being an excuse to disrespect Steven Hillenberg's wishes and create a spin-off show based on "Kamp Koral".

@Nightwing1015 - I hate that almost all animated movies are CG now. I miss hand drawn animation, especially with SpongeBob. This looks dumb

@Nightwing1015 - Trailer looked good to me. Tim Hill, the man who did a lot of early Spongebob episodes and Rocko's Modern Life, is directing and writing this movie.

@KWilly - Well that's good I guess. But the premise is an excuse to make a spin-off show against the wishes of the original creator. That's why they waited until after he died, seems pretty bad to me.

@Nightwing1015 - Yeah, I don't like that. But at the end of the day, it's all about the money. Any corporation would do the same.

The trailer for the Sponge Bob movie was amusing, so the kids will have to wait just a bit more for it.

“Spongebob The Movie.” Hasn’t there already been two theatrical movies? (Never been a fan, like the clips I’ve seen).
