Toy Story 3 Starts Campaigning For Best Picture Oscar!

Toy Story 3 Starts Campaigning For Best Picture Oscar!

Check out these fun riffs on previous winners and why the people behind the movie think that they deserve to be the first animated movie to get the "Best Picture" prize...

Here’s how Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross described the campaign:

"With this movie we wanted to come up with a campaign that kept our aspirations clear but at the same time used a tongue in cheek approach. It’s all to recognize the quandary which is that no animated picture had won Best Picture, so we used only Best Picture images to reflect that. I feel very confident we have a movie everybody loves and I want to make sure with our support and our campaign that people don’t feel the consolation prize is the appropriate prize for a movie like Toy Story 3. I think people will look at the ads and feel it’s very Pixar and very Disney. At the same time it’s very clear. Toy Story 3 is a Best Picture. Vote for it. Please."

I think it's fair to say that Toy Story 3 will most definitely get a nomination at the Oscars, but do you think it deserves to win? With tough competition from fellow favourites like Inception and The Social Network, it's sure to be an interesting year for the awards in 2011!

Any movie that makes a roomful of jaded, grown businessmen spontaneously cry deserves the Best Picture.

None of the other contenders are remotely as entertaining or moving as Toy Story 3 was.

I believe it would be well deserved... but now that some of you are mentioning Inception I'm hesitant. Come to think of it... Inception is coming out on blu-ray very soon!

I have to agree with you guys. It was a good movie (the weakest, and my least favourite, of the three though) and while it definitely deserves the Oscar for "Best Animation", I can think of many other movies more worthy of the main prize. My top three? Inception, Buried and The Town.

Defiently deserves the nomination for both Best Picture and Best Animated Picture. I would be very happy if it one best picture because it truly was great, with great drama and characters and made everyone cry.

I would be happy to see Toy Story 3, Inception, The Town, and the Social Network all get nominated for best Picture, and I wouldn't mind if any one (I'd rather Toy Story 3 or Inception win though).

I think Clash of the Titans deserves the award though.

Toy story 3 was a movie that actually ended in the best way possible and this movie touched me in a place dont rarely get touch(cause i dont like being touched there) and because of that this movie deserves best picture or at least a chance.

It was a good sequel but tbh I was a little let down. Not as good as the previous two.Saying that, because its the last one it may get the Academy sympathy vote a pull it off. After all,the Best Picture award rarely goes to the best picture.

I totally think this should win or at least get Best Picture. Only other contender would be Inception
FutureCBMHero
FutureCBMHero - 11/25/2010, 7:26 PM
I think it could win with the politics of Hollywood. 15 years ago, Toy Story changed the game, and the Best Picture could be it's reward. Scorsese waited 30 years to get his looong over due Best Picture/Best Director, so I think Nolan, who has been on the scene for less than a decade, will have to wait.

And for the record, I believe Toy Story is the best, most complete trilogy of all time. Better than LOTR, Star Wars..all of them.
jbak368
jbak368 - 11/25/2010, 7:51 PM
Toy Story 3 was great, but I doubt it will win, simply because it's animated. It may not be fair, but that's the way it is. Plus it's hard to deny that Nolan and Fincher are both overdue for some wins.
Rango
Rango - 11/25/2010, 8:02 PM
Inception,The Social Network and Toy story 3 were the only worthy movies of this otherwise most boring year to date.
I lost the count how many movies disappointing me this year..with Iron man 2 being at the top.Ridiculous sequel.

waiting for 2011
FutureCBMHero
FutureCBMHero - 11/25/2010, 8:06 PM
I love Nolan, he hasn't been on the scene long enough for The Academy to say he is long overdue. Fincher has been around longer, but Social Network wasn't good enough to win.

If I were to name the Top 10 of 2010 for the Academy, I'm guessing it will be in no particular order

Inception
Social Network
Toy Story 3
127 Hours
The Town
True Grit
The Fighter
Black Swan
Burlesque
Waiting for Superman

Protonite
Protonite - 11/25/2010, 8:07 PM
Some people are pining for The Fighter, True Grit, The King's Speech, etc. And there's still time for more candidates to get released. Inception and Toy Story 3 are among the mainstream summer hopefuls. But I'm almost certain neither of them will win it.
Rango
Rango - 11/25/2010, 8:23 PM
The most important criterias for a movie getting nominated for Oscars are:
1.They should be boring, sleep inducing made for Oscar art movies that only Stephen Hawkins can comprehend and enjoy
2.They should be completely unheard, failure at box office..as according to judges Mass appealing successful movies are crap..so unfortunately Inception is out of race.
3.They should deal with transvestites/gays or have loads of nudity..

Unfortunately The Town,Inception,TS3,TSN
fail to meet these conditions.

jbak368
jbak368 - 11/25/2010, 8:40 PM
The edge that Inception has is the tendency of the Academy to reward financial achievement, as well as their tendency of using wins to make up for past injustices (in this case, the Academy pretty much ignoring TDK in all but the most obvious category, when pretty much everyone agreed it should've also been nominated for Director, Picture, Adapted Screenplay, and Score.

(of course, sometimes they let injustices continue forever, as in the case of Martin Scorsese, finally winning for a great movie that wasn't actually the best movie, or certain actors that they've shown continual disdain for, like DiCaprio or Depp, nominated when they pretty much have to be but never winning even when they should.)

If Beauty and the Beast couldn't win Best Picture then neither should Toy Story 3.

Beauty and the Beast>>>>>Toy Story 3
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 11/25/2010, 10:05 PM
Honestly, it was a great ending, but most of the strength of Toy Story 3 comes from the fact that it's the third movie in a trilogy spanning 15 years centered on the themes of accepting change and moving on. I really don't think it deserves best picture. As far as animated movies go, there have been many before that a re more deserving.

It deserves a nod... simply an amazing film.

Inception does as well imo; very good chance Inception may win - I'd be willing to bet on it.
Angelus

It was a good film but Oscar? Come on! And the worst part is that it will win an oscar because the integrity of that institution has fallen way down. Inception will probably win something too. Both are good films, but TS3 was far greater than Inception, and both are not Oscar material. Give the Oscar to a random homeless down the street and be done with it.
And HankAce is totally right. The greatest full-length animated feature film in ever made was and still is Beauty And the Beast. If TS3 wins then my full distaste towards the Oscars will be complete. To the dark side I shall fall... (Ps: I am cranky since I just woke up and have not had my breakfast yet!)

BMP!

MarkCassidy - 11/26/2010, 1:53 AM
Yeah it definitely deserves a nod. I loved it. And it so fashionable to find Inception "overrated" now isn't it? I stand by it as a great movie and also hope it gets a nomination. I thought The Town was quite mediocre. But the Oscars have never really been as much about rewarding excellence in film as rewarding effective formula. The schmaltzier the better!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/26/2010, 3:26 AM
Hehe, I completely disagree with you about Inception, but funny stuff as always tea! :D

I'd personally like to see either Nolan or Affleck get "Best Director" and either Inception or The Town get "Best Picture". Ryan Reynolds should get "Best Actor" for Buried and Jeremy Renner deserves "Best Supporting Actor" for The Town. No idea about the rest!
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/26/2010, 5:23 AM
the best picture was Inception, but i think The Next Three Days is going to get the Prize! Or Russell Crowe in The Next Three Days!
