Coming off an extended look at the water fight scene, Paramount Pictures has officially released the first 4-and-a-half minutes of Rupert sanders' live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell.

Things kick-off with The Major (Scarlett Johansson) surveilling a meeting, but when those creepy Robo-Geishas get involved the lethal cyborg is forced to enter the fray, and an exciting action scene follows.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is at the helm of Ghost in the Shell, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk, and is set for release on March 31, 2017.

It's rental bait for me. ScarJo playing ScarJo is not a draw for me. It's the same reason why a solo Black Widow movie won't work. In the same way she's not playing Natasha Romanoff, she's not playing The Major. She's just being Scarlett Johanssen.

I think the odds are against this one. The original anime movie has no mainstream crossover appeal. Critics, anime purists, and people shouting "white-washing" will shit on this movie relentlessly.

So the opening credits will remake the scene from the opening sequence from the original movie and the first action scene seems to recreate the first scene from Stand Alone Complex? The team behind this movie seem to be fans and honoring the source material but I just hope the writing and storytelling is good.
