AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Jason Momoa Says He "Giggled" A Lot Reading The Sequel's Screenplay

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa has shared an update on the DC Comics sequel, revealing that fans can expect a lot of comedy and an exciting new take on Atlantis thanks to new technology...

2018's Aquaman was a huge hit for Warner Bros., grossing over $1.14 billion at the global box office (making it the most successful DC Extended Universe movie to date). Between the colourful visuals, focus on humour, and blockbuster action, it felt a lot like a Marvel Studios movie, and it sounds like James Wan plans to head down a similar route with Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom

In the video below, Arthur Curry himself, Jason Momoa, dropped some hints about what fans can expect from the sequel when it arrives in theaters next December.

"We all learned something on the first one. It's exciting because I haven't made too many sequels. I just know that it's, even on the page, it's absolutely wonderful," the Dune star explains. "There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher. There's a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it. There's a lot of fun, and definitely the action's [bigger]."

Very little has been revealed about the plot of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, though we were recently treated to a first glimpse of Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master (with a startling new look). Amber Heard will be back as Mera, as will Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Mantis.

Momoa, though, is just excited for fans to see how technology has evolved when it comes to how Atlantis is brought to life on screen. "I think just in the last three or four years, technology is constantly [evolving]...it's just moving at such a rapid pace that what we're doing with underwater [sequences], I mean, that's what made the first one so amazing. It's just gone on to a whole other level, so I'm excited for everyone because it's just a lot more heart. There's a lot more at risk."

While some fans might be unhappy with the mention of "a lot of comedy," there's currently no reason to think the humor will overshadow what makes Aquaman such a great character.

@manofillintent1 - It adds more to the curiosity of the film so how is it not news?

@MrDitkovich - I thought there’d be more to the article, alas there was not, oh a sequel that’s gonna have higher stakes and more action, no sh*t

Did someone mention Nautical nonsense? I’ll buy my ticket now!

While I didn’t mind the lighter tone for the character compared to Justice League I thought the first was a bit too campy at times so this doesn’t exactly instill confidence. I really want to be excited but something about this movie is giving me WW84 vibes. Of the DC sequels Shazam is the only one where I’m actually pretty confident that it will be an improvement on the first film based one what we’ve seen and heard

@Ha1frican - Not that I didn’t like Shazam I did overall (despite a nitpick here and there) but something about the costume design and what the director has said about it feel like the franchise is maturing and being refined in a way you hope to see with a sequel

@BlackBeltJones - those extras should’ve looked at her, then at the camera, and shaken their heads

Nothing he's saying is making me particularely excited for the sequel because it sounds like an amplification of what the first movie was, and I unfortunately didn't care much for it.
It certainly wasn't a bad time, but it didn't stick with me.

And i was asking Tars do bring down humour settings to 65% after watching the first movie...

Yeah, all I need is more ''giggles'' and even larger CGI fights. Can't wait!

(Aquaman is my least favorite Dc movie)

I don't think I even cracked a smile in the first Aquaman.

@KWilly - I know some dislike the movie, I admit it had few teething issues, but I absolutely loved and soaked in the cheese.

This scene had me grinning from ear to ear:

I’m totally biased to when it comes to this film, I loved the whole experience. I remember watching it on IMAX and just feeling absolutely pumped, smiling like a little kid again.

The last time I walked out a theatre feeling that pumped was Mad Max Fury Road (obviously Mad Max was miles better) but this end fight scene, the cheese that oozes from it, the score, awww this is the Aquaman I grew up reading!

@Se4M4NSt4ine - those two movies, it’s like the difference between miles and leagues.

@TheWalkingCuban - didn’t you read what I said? I clearly state Fury Road is a far superior film, but in terms of visual, action and energy Aquaman was the next movie to get me pumped.

It’s okay to have an opinion my guy

@Se4M4NSt4ine - dude if you didn’t enjoy the pun just say so, I have zero problem with your opinion, I love fury road and quite enjoyed Aquaman, watched it with my wife (ex now) and I don’t try to be an uptight nerd when it comes to my family: if they enjoy somethin, I’m not gonna suck the life out of it.

TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 9/26/2021, 6:32 PM
@Se4M4NSt4ine - haha it’s all good, I will enjoy what we enjoy and who cares what others think, they’re just movies anyway. I think Aquaman is a four, Shazam a 5. Others will differ, and I’ll listen, but I won’t insult em.
