When Zack Snyder chose Jason Momoa to play Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it's fair to say we all wondered what he was thinking. On the surface, the Game of Thrones and Conan the Barbarian star seemed like an odd fit for the King of Atlantis, but he's since proved all the doubters wrong and established himself as a great Arthur Curry.
Next year's Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has spent most of 2022 making headlines for its release date delays and the size of Amber Heard's role as Mera following her loss in court to ex-husband Johnny Depp.
However, we were finally treated to some good news when Momoa recently shared some photos on social media of him and Ben Affleck seemingly hanging out on the sequel's set. Since then, we've heard rumblings that the actor was enlisted to replace Michael Keaton after test audiences were left scratching their heads about his return because they hadn't seen The Flash.
Now that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is coming out after the Scarlet Speedster's solo outing, we can't help but wonder if Keaton's scenes will be restored. Either way, Momoa has confirmed that, yes, Affleck has shot scenes for the movie.
"I love Ben. I love him deeply. And yeah...f**k it. Ben's coming back," he says in the video below. "It's wonderful. We have a lot of surprises. So fun. It's a fun journey and a lot of laughs. I'm excited for everybody to see it."
It's nice to get that confirmation, and we do hope Affleck's scenes don't end up on the cutting room floor. Between him being brought back for this movie and Batgirl's cancellation, it does seem more likely that Warner Bros. will look to keep him as the DCEU's Dark Knight rather than making Keaton's Caped Crusader a permanent addition to this world.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom splashes down into theaters on December 25, 2023.
