Avengers: Age of Ultron finally has a release date in China.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Joss Whedon-directed film has passed censorship in the world's second-largest film market (by box office) and has set May 12th as its official Chinese release date. The highly anticipated Marvel tentpole is currently in the process of being translated and is being imported by the state-owned China Film Group. This date follows its May 1st release in the U.S. and its April 24th release in the U.K. and India.
For comparison's sake, 2012's The Avengers grossed over $84 million in China. The Chinese box office has since grown and the super sequel is expected to do considerably more especially after another American release, Transformers: Age of Extinction, managed to pull in over $300 million in China just last year. Marvel's other Phase 2 films have also done very well over there with Iron Man 3 grossing over $121 million, Thor: The Dark World taking in over $55 million, Captain America: The Winter Soldier pulling in over $115 million, and Guardians of the Galaxy raking in over $96 million.
Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
