German Theaters Boycott AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Due To Problems With Disney

Even though Avengers: Age of Ultron opened with $201.2 million over the weekend and took the number 1 spot in all overseas markets, German theaters decided to boycott Marvel's blockbuster film. What's the cause of this boycott? Hit the jump to check it out!

With Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron debuting to $201.2 million this weekend in 44 international territories, German theaters (with over 700 screens) decided to boycott Marvel's blockbuster. What reason would these theaters have to boycott The Avengers sequel? Well, it seems as though this problem started because “Disney raised their rental fee from 47.7% to 53% of ticket sales.” Says broadcaster Deutsche Welle, who also said that Disney “cut its contribution to advertising, and done away with advances for 3-D glasses.”

Andreas Kramer (a member of the Hauptverband Deutscher Filmtheater lobby group) had this to say about the incident. “Approaching the industry with these conditions is completely unusual and, for me, a scandal.” In addition to that, Karl-Heinz Meier of I.G. Nord revealed his concern and said that this conflict could cause many movie theaters to close. “We are worried — particularly about Eastern Germany. When prices go up, then we have a serious problem that could force movie theaters to close.”

So, if Disney can’t devise a plan on how to stop this boycott, it would not only affect the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, but some say that it could carry out into the release of Star Wars: The force Awakens as well. “The new ‘Star Wars’ film is coming out at the end of the year. Disney manages its distribution — things could get interesting.” Even though, Avengers: Age of Ultron opened up to an explosive debut, I'm sure this is a major concern to not only Disney, but Marvel Studios as well.  Whatever happens I'm sure it'll be handled soon, and if it is, you can stay tuned to CBM for all the latest updates on the situation! What do you think about this boycott? Sound off below with your thoughts!

Not all german theatres didn't boycott the movie.

IT WAS THE SMALL THEATRES. THE REALLY SMALL ONES. PRIVATELY OWNED. SO NO BIG DEAL RIGHT HERE. SO THEY MUST HAVE LOST LESS THAN A MILLION DOLLARS WHICH IS NOT SOMETHING TO REALLY BE CONCERNED WITH REALLY

@LEVITIKUZ Actually I think it's an strategy to raise interest in the movie by releasing in another country to generate buzz and increase domestic sales. I remember reading something about it last year.

Marvel Studios is stupid when it comes to stuff like this. You released the film 2 weeks in advance of the largest market. Did you really expect it not to get leaked? Worldwide release or GTFO. Also, they are holding advance screenings tonight and tomorrow night, but the website to grab tickets went up at 2am this morning. WTF?

Well guys Disney needs to make up some money for buying SW!

That being said Disney is a very greedy corporation! Also I can see the Disney blueprint starting to emerge on the MCU!

I traveled from Germany to Holland to watch it on Tuesday, there were 14 persons in the theater, and that was the Premiere. And greedy Disney wants more money.
